Is this not the nicest summer in many many years??? You can't keep us inside. and the whole state (at least all the areas I've visited lately-all for chickens) looks so green and lush. The chickens are happy too, and the garden is going crazy.

Does anyone have a good source for dried mealworms, at a decent price? All I'm finding is about a dollar per ounce, at either Tractor Supply, or Atwoods. Amazon, is even more expensive, on the same brand. There are a few Amazon retailers, selling them a bit cheaper, but, I thought before I spent $115 on a bag of mealworms, I ought to check with the experts, here in OK.
My flock, doesn't seem to think that the other Happy Hen treats that I've bought, were all that special, but, they sure do LOVE those Happy Hens Treats mealworms, and Quaker Oats. I figure one brand of dried mealworms, will be as good as the next, so I'm not concerned about brands. But, I sure have gotten addicted to the flock eating out of my hand. Even my fairly mean RIR Roo, loves to peck those treats out of my hand. The Fruit, Berry and Nut combo, they turn their beaks up at. I think I spoiled them, with real watermelon, and real strawberries.
I'm going down to Sallisaw in a little while, and will pick up another 10oz/$10 pack of the ones they carry. But, I'd sure love to get some at a better price.

I bought meal worms (live) and started my own colony.
If mine were any bigger than an inch long, I'd be more than happy to GIVE you some!
There are a few people on BYC that sell them. There's a meal worm thread in the feeding and watering your flock forum.

I am thinking about getting my Dubia colony going again. They are much easier to care for and get to thrive than mealies.

well, i raise enough for occasional treats- but not on a massive scale- the are so simple to raise- my starling and sparrow enjoy them too- not to mention chicks

get bin or drawer, a couple inches of crumble, oatmeal, dog kibble. Toss is about 500 mealies, halved potato and ignore them, you should have a good size colony going in no time or

My grandson, left the $10/10oz bag, out on the backyard table, overnight, and they are GONE today. Some critter got a gold mine. I guess I need to just buy another $10 bag, and order some a little cheaper, to tide me over, until I'm growing my own. But, if I'm going to let my kids out, to roam, I have to give them what they expect, when I shoo them back in the coop, tonight. And of course, my attempt at multi-quote didn't work. I think I need to read more about how to do it, then buy the materials, before buying worms. But, over here, in my neck of Oklahoma, I'm not sure where the nearest major pet store is. If not Muskogee, then maybe I have to go to Ft. Smith. But, it sounds like I need an education, before venturing into that world.

Yes they are. I kinda fell into these wasn't really ready for them but Dusti really wanted to get rid of them so I traded the pair for a cockrel and a capon. She was already preggers.
