***OKIES in the BYC III ***

I believe the angora is one breed you can harvest "wool" from w/o killing it, if you have any girls interested in fiber arts / fiber making.  They can be litter box trained I understand.

Indeed! I'd love angora for spinning but not sure I want the hassle of more bunnies!
I love that you breed for health and tolerance.

we saw some frech angora at an aution, the girls realy wanted them but we didn't win the bid kind of gald we didn't becausei don't know how hard it would have been to keep there hair tangle free.  I really like the look of duch rabbits but on of my girls said they wanted a mini lop.  I don't know what we will end up with kind of in the reshurch phase right now.

Mini lops are even less heat tolerant than rexes. Our original ones were lops :(

i was just reading about that because they don't have control over there ears and that is where most of the heat is controled from.

altex hybrids and a&m new Zealand have been bred for heat tolerance but as with chickens, most breeds can be tolerant of your climate if they've been bred in it.

Yes I have read that about Texas A&M and the altex are pink eyed whites from New Zealand White stock I believe. I wouldn't choose a pew for a pet though, I think one of the ugliest rabbits out there, but probably good for meat since you wouldn't have the cute factor to deal with. The other thing to think about w/ breeding for meat harvest, is the potential for pelt harvest. at $2-10 (depending on breed and age) per pelt you can defray some or all of your feed costs.

yes, i belive so to, my girls love to do art and crafts. but i would not know where to begin learing how to turn wool into yarn.
