***OKIES in the BYC III ***

So, just wanting some opinions. I have 2 runs going on, 1 just silkies and or sizzles, and 1 an assortment of layers-some bantam some LF. I have 2 coops in each run. So, here's my rather complex question: Im getting SFH chicks in a few weeks and would really prefer to have them in the silkie run as I desperately need foragers over there. But will the silkies potentially be bullied? I feel like all of mine are pretty laid back, all that end up being pullets anyway. So, I have 2 coops right now in that run, if its reasonable to keep them in the same run should I add another small house? Its totally doable, I have the space and time. Or can they potentially share a house in the run? Or should I give up on the SFH with the silkies and just put them in the run with the other chickens? There is less space in that run but it is still definitely doable. Opinions anyone?

Also, about black oil sunflower seeds, will seeds straight from my sunflowers work? Seems like a dumb question and I know the sparrows love them but it just occurred to me to ask. I have a sunflower forest here, and my silkies have ZERO interest in mealworms. (Someone needs to tell these silkies they're chickens…)

My son just found our older hen laying in the coop gasping for air. We brought her in a rinsed her in case it was heat stroke and now she is wrapped in a towel iin a quiet area. I know she is old and half blind but I have been trying to take care if her the best I can. I have never seen her like this It is scary and the kids are upset. I made sure she had water and stringed her vitamins and a but if water. What else can we do? Her comb is getting darker

keep her cool and calm. Keep her hydrated. Electrolytes if you can. There's a homemade electrolyte formula on here somewhere. Stuff you probably have at home.
If you have liquid foods, like mashed bananas or strawberries, I think that would also give her a good boost. You want her eating hydrated foods because it is so taxing on the fluid system to digest food and it can be detrimental to feed dry food to a dehydrated animal.

I'm sorry, Lorie. Tha's normally how they act right before they die. You might prepare your kids and let them tell her goodbye and let everyone pet her. It really helps to get to say goodbye. If she happens to make it, awesome. But I've never had one come back from acting like that. I don't mean to be cruel, it'd just be nice if the kids got to say bye, that means so much to kids.

Happy dance! :weee Happy coincidences seem to be abundant in the chicken yard lately. Earlier today I found a small, bright white egg next to a warbling Minorca! I gathered it up with the others, including my regular blue egg from Raven, my EE girl. I just went out to check for more eggs and found a small, pretty blue egg, just pullet size. That means Ella, my Cream Legbar girl from Rinda has started to lay!

Now to set up a pen for them.

Oh, but if I'm going to post the good, I might as well post the d'oh! That girl I've been watching because she was supposed to be a girl, had tons of girl qualities, but had thick legs, gave her first crow today. Sigh. I knew it was coming because I started seeing what might be saddle feathers in the last two weeks, but it still wasn't positive until today.

Mitzi and Rebecca, that's the lavender "girl" from the Coweta auction you came to. Anybody need a lavender Orpington boy?

Been there wishing so much you won't acknowledge what you are actually seeing,

Lost little Solo, the serama chick, thought it was wryneck, but they are so fragile-

meanwhile, little yogi looks pretty well recovered, his beak though looks like it took a beating
