Guinea chciks are so cute, but when they grow up they are so ugly...

I totally agree. Have you ever seen those medieval paintings that depict devils as hunched over with white wrinkled heads, long pointed noses and red eyes? I'm convinced that was inspired by guineas.

Have you tried Tylan?  I spoke recently with the state vet about using Tylan 50, he said the recommendations online are VERY conservative at 1/2 CC for a chick and 1 CC for an adult per day.  He suggested a more appropriate dose for an aggressive respiratory infection was 3-5 CC per day, broken up into 3 or 4 doses throughout the day.

Wow that is quite a bit higher than the dosages I have used. I'll try it

not vulture guineas! They look dignified and distinguished! And like all their names are Jeeves!

I think guinea bodies shapes are elegant and their feathers are beautiful but their heads don't match. I would have some in a heartbeat if they weren't so loud.
DH's cousin has an Emu. They make an amazing drumming sound kind of like a turkey tom shaking his tail feathers but deeper and generated from a cavety near the strange "horn" on their head. - a reminder of birds' dinosaur ancestors

I agree with the bodies of the guinea, they are pretty, but like you said the head just doesn't match the body. I would love some for the ticks and bugs and things, but they are so so loud, don't think my neighbors would appreciate them..

I have several. A few purebred Rhode Island Red Bantam cockerels, 13 weeks old. A purebred white Jap Blacktail roo, 10 months old. 4 laying hens mixed White BlackTails. 5 mixed 14 week old Jap WBT. One of them is a cockerel.

Went down to check our DNA blackberries to see if they are getting ripe yet. Called DNA because when you pick them the huge thorns collect your DNA. Anyway....they are loaded and just beginning to turn but the bushes are covered with grasshoppers eating the foliage. I returned to the house for my bug stuff....sprinkled the bushes with NOLO bait (bacterial treatment) and Triazicide...gets fungus and bugs. Should finally get some berries for the freezer this year after several years without.

The fruit trees are doing great also. I planted four new trees last fall and they have doubled in size.

Hatch in the incubator is now up to 12. Will take them out to a broody hen this evening. She has been sitting on eggs for two weeks.
Those eggs will be candled and given to a new broody that has fake eggs. Then when hers hatch she will get a few more from the incubator due on the same date.

No fun, they are my husbands babies. He did a great job trimming them up tho so hopefully we won't have to do much in the fall. We have a copper fungicide for next spring We planted 7 new fruit trees this spring (mostly for the runs) so hoping for lots more fruit next year! And we've been trying to establish sand plums for some time but haven't been successful yet. We have lots of seeds tho so were sprouting them now. Your garden is an inspiration. We dream of an orchard one day!

I've read you should prune plants during certain moon phases, have you tried doing that?
