@artsyrobin Dragon was so cool looking. I have 2 Mottled Asils, love that color.

2 Silver Leghorns have hatched. I've wanted this breed for year and finally found eggs. Out of 18 eggs only 7 made it to lockdown though. I've kept my humidity up in the 40-50's during incubation this time and I think that was too high. The 2nd chick was really sticky & gooey and had a lot of liquid inside the egg. I helped get his head out because I was afraid he'd drown. I usually do dry hatches, this is the 1st time I had the humidity this high the 1st 18 days.
@Kyzmette Silver Leghorns are colored just like Dorkings, love that color on the girls!

OMG why didn't people tell me such birds existed?!?! As soon as I saw that, I started googling. I MUST HAVE LAVENDER LEGHORNS!!!!! :drool

Where did you get your silvers? They're gorgeous birds!

I didn't even know they had Lavender. Go check out the Exchequer Leghorns, they're beautiful! I just fell in love with my hatchery Leghorns, so comical with their flopped over combs. I've lost so many from that batch though :-( I only have 2 Whites and a Brown left out of 9. I'm hoping to have better luck if I stay away from hatchery stock. At least Ideal Hatchery. I've gotten some really big healthy birds from others that came from McMurray Hatchery.

It's been a crappy day. My old pyrenees hasn't been acting very good lately. Anyway< I decided to give her a bath and she was really weak getting into the tub. She started panting heavy and had a hear attack and passed on. I should of taken her to the vet, because even at her age she's been pretty active.

So giving her a bath was a crappy decision.

She's been geting flea stuff, but i usually use Advantix and tried a different one. She was scratching and moaning. I saw fleas so decided she'd feel better if I bathed and dipped her. It hasn't been a full 4 weeks, so I was leary of putting more drops on her. But had planned on doing so after a few days when the oil in her hair was back up after a bath. I haven't been able to cry. Just a blurr. I had planned on digging her grave this evening, but felt weak after feeding. It seemed like it was extra humid today. Yesterday, I was out working all afternoon and it didn't affect me. Stress does me in. i need to take some sort of class.
My little cross beak, sat on my chest for over an hour after I fed her which gave me a lot of comfort. Oh and all my teenage boys got out and i didn't round them up.
@Kyzmette on a good note, 5 eggs under a hen that I used to hatch some of Floyd's eggs hatched. The 6th was no good. I thought The ones in the incubator were supposed to hatch around the same time, but they haven't started. Maybe it was a couple days later. I forgot to write it down. They were all alive when I last candled them, so I'm hoping. I was reading a post on BYC that said it didn't hurt to candle once in lockdown, but I resisted the urge.
Well. it's after one am, so I should try to sleep. I haven't ate anything since this morning so I should probably drink a glass of milk and skip my diabetic meds for tonight. I have a lot to do tomorrow. I traded my last dairy goat and her twin does for some help to get things cleaned up here and the guy never called me today? I dug Jones grave by myself a few months ago. So I know I can do it again. I just have to have a bucket to stand on so I can crawl out. That was her sidekick. She really mourned him when he was killed. Now they're romping together in green fields, and cool air the way they like it.

@hotcurltr No one told us there'd be days like the one you just experienced, did they? Our animals are our family, and it's always tough to have one pass. I hope you find some comfort today.

So sorry to hear about your dog - but it sounds like it was time.

You will cry when you can, though it might hit you unexpectedly. Be careful of the heat. Even though you didn't feel anything during the day - that could very well be why you weren't feeling as well later. It can be a huge stressor on your body that just builds up. Getting enough sleep in a cool area at night is SOOOO important to being able to deal with more hot conditions. Plus...stay hydrated, and replace electrolytes after awhile when the water just doesn't cut it anymore.

Diane...please take care of yourself today. The heat index is going to be hot! Your sweet dog is definitely enjoying the reunion with Jones!

My 14 year granddaughter has decided she wants Seramas so I've ordered eggs from North Carolina. She will ship on Wednesday for a Friday delivery.

Yesterday, one of the 5 week old...not fully feathered Buckeye cockerels caught a baby mouse about 2 inches long. He beat the heck out of it on the ground...then brought it into the barn and beat it on the concrete. The whole time he was chirping the "see what I have" call. Two big hens tried unsuccessfully to get his prize. He darted between the feed cans and under a pallet then behind a door. It was way to big for him to eat, but the Banty girls investigated. They couldn't eat it either. Then he darted under a storage cabinet...don't know where the mouse ended up, but I wished for a video camera.

And another best seat in the house photo....
