***OKIES in the BYC III ***

I have a long list of breeds I want to add to my flock. True amerucanas, Swedish flower hen, jubilee Orpington, speckled Sussex, marans, welsummers, mille fleurs, barnevelder, and brahmas. I plan on ordering from a hatchery in the spring but I want to try to get them locally from backyard chicken owners first. Does anyone have or know anyone who has these chickens? I'm interested in hatching eggs, chicks, or young hens for fair prices. I'm located north of Tulsa. Since I'm almost positive I won't be able to get every breed by spring I was also wondering what hatcheries everyone uses? I'm leaning towards either ideal or cackle. Thanks!

I recommend @cathiesue for swedish flower hens! Hers are amazing! :)

Article in last weeks paper stated that the council reinstated the restriction at their monthly meeting.
No one showed up at the council meeting to argue for keeping their birds.
The decision recognized that some people had purchased birds and they were given 6 months to sell them.

I'll see if I can find the article.
I wish this wasn't a family board, i have some choice words for this.
NAMELY THIS IS NOT FAIR. I would have shown up an ANY meeting to argue for it. *takes deep breath* I guess their stuff is posted as public record, but I still feel like they're sneaking around and making decisions without giving us a fair chance to argue our point. Maybe I'm wrong. Maybe I just need to follow the agendas more closely (though, I guess it doesn't matter now) and try and get people together.

check out my website www.chickenfanatics.com. I have a lot of those breeds. Cathie sue probably does have better Swedish flowers at this point but I'm getting there! I will have chicks sept-nov and again in the spring. I'm in Coweta.

wonder if OKC cares about seramas? they aren't livestock....size of a cockateil
Also are indoor chickens affected? I know that's not a common occurrence but some folks do it. How do they (if they do) draw the line between pet birds and livestock? And is there a limit to number of pet birds and or breeds that are acceptable? I'm generally curious if anyone knows.

Hi, I am new to chickens, but I got mine from mypetchicken.com. The shipping is more, but you can get lower numbers of each type. Mine seem happy and healthy, but as I understand it, hatchery chickens don't tend to be the best representation of the breed. If nothing else, it's fun to get on their website and look at what's available. MPC has pretty good reviews, and I got great customer service. Keep us posted when you get some.

Quote: Honestly, I don't know. I have indoor chickens, but I only free range once(ish) a day in my backyard. The neighbor dogs on the fenceline are more bothered by people than they are the chickens, so I don't even think my neighbors know. I would argue through hell and high water that indoor chickens are like parrots, which I can keep. Right now, I'm basically aware that I could be fined, but am unlikely to ever be caught.

what i don't understand is places like NY city, san diego, boston allow them... makes no sense

Had a wonderful visit with Robin and her husband last evening. Hope the new capon boys settle in quickly. The silkie, especially, likes to hog the roost. I hope he will share with the cochin now that they are home.

DH took me to see the new planet of the apes film after dinner out. Grocery shopping after that. In my little world that's called "A Perfect Evening."

My free-rangers are soggy this morning. It's supposed to warm up, mid 80's I think, so they should dry out and may even be able to sunbathe.
