***OKIES in the BYC III ***

NanaKat, I get terrible cramps and no matter what I did, nothing alleviated them completely. They have me on Gabapentin now, and that's gotten them down to the point where the hours between 8 pm and 4 am aren't a miserable nightmare, but they're not completely gone. The things that helped me most before the Gabapentin were to keep my sodium/potassium levels up, and to drink tons of water. Most people do that, but some conditions cause awful, awful cramping in spite of all the remedies. I still keep a bottle of potassium tablets in my nightstand, and now when my legs seize up, I can down one of those and in about half an hour the cramping subsides. If his diet allows, you might consider keeping bottles of gatorade in the fridge. It helped me a little to have a glass of the sugarfree version before bedtime. Ask your Dr. if additional potassium would be bad, because he might need to keep some on his side of the bed. Is he diabetic? That can cause terrible issues with the nerves in the legs.

Meant to mention that the young man in Luther has three geese for sale. $25 each or $60 for all three. There is a pair of Chinese white and a Gray African gander. The are healthy looking, fully grown. The goose is not laying yet.
PM me if you want his contact information.

Roger was up again thru the night with leg cramps. He is tough and is in the tractor moving hay for a neighbor this morning. He didn't take his cane, but does have his cell phone. I'll be sticking close to the house phone and will be carrying my cell in my pocket.

Granddaughter is here today. She was disappointed about the chicks not hatching. The lady I bought from is sending another set of eggs...should arrive Wednesday. What we will spend for our grandchildren!
And Robyn gave me contact information for a lady on Facebook. Will be contacting her as well.
I have two broody Bantam hens sitting on eggs and two more ready to set. Should have plenty of "normal" incubators.

My chickens are 19 weeks old and all look ready, but no eggs. So Saturday I gave up and bought eggs. Wouldnt you know Sunday I would get my first egg ever? I was so excited I showed everyone in the house. Apparently I am the only one that's been waiting on the edge of their seat for this moment.

WOW, have any of you tried no crow collars?
You might remember my black sizzle/frizzle that I couldn't figure out if it was a pullet or cockeral? Well hes a he and started crowing. I shouldve tried to rehome him when several people told me he was probably a he. But I have gotten super attached and he has gotten super gorgeous!
So anyway, I was looking into the no crow collars, as I don't want to upset the neighbors, and I started reading that you could make them! Well I used a sock that had a hole in the toe so it was on its way to the garbage and i added some velcro so I could adjust it. I am super impressed with my little creation! I did not take long for Mathew (previously Mattie) to adjust and he has been very quiet.
I may still have to rehome him as I don't want to breed him (hes my only silkie type) and some of the bantam cochins he is with are frizzled too. Time will tell there I guess but if anyone is desperately looking for a roo (

) he is super sweet and would have to go to a wonderful loving chickens as pets home.

Awww so sorry. I really thought you had a girl  Hope it's not too hard to rehome him. If you're only worried about him breeding don't incubate the eggs, and watch those sneaky girls so they don't either! :)

Oh I've been there. My Arlo was ecstatic beyond belief but I believe my husband said "50 dozen more and they might start paying off" RUDE. As least I don't have to hear him tell visitors our chickens are 'decoration only' :gig

We had something similar yesterday when we moved a pallet and disturbed a nest of pinky mice. There was a scrabble to see who was going to get one first and then the keep-away chases were on. Mandy's chicks were some of the first of the chicks to grab one and they could outrun the hens. But they would scream while they held their prizes and ran zigzag thru the farm equipment. If one chanced to stop to slam the mouse on the ground another would try to snatch it. If successful off it would dart with the prize.

I feel your pain. My 13 year old catches me looking at my ipad and immediately says "What are you looking at? Chickens again?"
