My crop surgery patient! On her feet today, although a little wobbly. She scarfed down a cooked egg yolk this morning so I gave her an entire scrambled egg about 2 PM, she went nuts. On Mitzi's recommendation, yesterday morning I stitched up the wound because apparently the superglue didn't catch the whole edge and everything she drank was leaking out and soaking down her chest. No leaking today. I don't think we are quite out of the woods but she has a very good chance of recovery now!

She looks great. Are you giving her antibiotics too...like Tylan50 in her water? She could have a dose in a little water and then when it is gone, fill her cup with fresh water for the rest of the day. Or dribble the dose down her mouth and let her drink the water to wash it down..

We had something similar yesterday when we moved a pallet and disturbed a nest of pinky mice. There was a scrabble to see who was going to get one first and then the keep-away chases were on. Mandy's chicks were some of the first of the chicks to grab one and they could outrun the hens. But they would scream while they held their prizes and ran zigzag thru the farm equipment. If one chanced to stop to slam the mouse on the ground another would try to snatch it. If successful off it would dart with the prize.

This is the best part!! I laugh until I can't breathe every single time they do this rofl! Some things never get old. Chicken KeepAway and Chicks-Learning-To-Drink-Water are 2 of them

@NanaKat I almost totally forgot, along with the potassium tablets and gatorade, a friend gave me a bottle of magnesium oil she got from a local vitamin supplements store. It's not for internal use, but you actually rub it on the skin where you're having cramps. The stuff actually gave me a little relief after using it for a while. If you use it though, let your hubby know ahead of time so he'll be ready for the burn... it's kind of like icy hot... but not. This stuff gets HOT, so don't get it on open wounds... like the cut I had on my finger when I first used it. If my friend had heard the words I called her, we wouldn't be friends.

Rinda, congrats!!! I'm so glad your girl is doing better! Great job!

Mitzi, I get the same way every time I'm teaching a new chick how to eat. Every time I tap on the floor of their box where the crumble is and they come running up and start pecking at my finger, it tickles me so much I get those little "tee hee hee" giggles!

I feel your pain. My 13 year old catches me looking at my ipad and immediately says "What are you looking at? Chickens again?"

Hope it's not too hard to rehome him. If you're only worried about him breeding don't incubate the eggs, and watch those sneaky girls so they don't either!

Oh I've been there. My Arlo was ecstatic beyond belief but I believe my husband said "50 dozen more and they might start paying off" RUDE. As least I don't have to hear him tell visitors our chickens are 'decoration only'

Too funny... I've gotten two eggs now so I figure that has brought the cost-per-egg down significantly.

They will be 12 weeks the first of Oct, so sometime between then and the first of Nov. I need to relook up the pelt prices and ages to make sure.

Yes actually I started Tylan this morning, she just seems a little off still and I thought it wouldn't hurt. Actually put it in her water but thought with her condition I will start hitting her tomorrow with Sulmet in the water and dribble the Tylan in her beak. She is looking even better tonight than she did this morning. I thought for sure I would lose her when I first found her, now I'm glad I went ahead and did the crop surgery, I think she's going to make it. My husband wanted me to just put her down but I had to give her a shot. She is pooping now, too, so her system is finally functioning again!

Oh, I hope so badly she does good!!!!

Oh heck yes lol They get pregnant as soon as giving birth and sometimes don't get their 1st litter weaned before the 2nd is born :-D I'm already stressing on getting my girls separated from my boys and they're only 10-12 wks. Boys can be fertile as soon as 12 wks and girls can get pregnant every 30 days starting about 16 wks. No thanks. Mine are multiplying fast enough with just me buying them-I already have 6 and I'm picking up another French Lop tomorrow

I always thought Tylan was more like Tetracycline in that it wouldn't work for infections in the skin? (I don't know, am just thinking out loud).
I never did give mine antibiotics after crop surgery. They heal up so dang good from even bad wounds that I figured they'd be fine without it.
If she's pooping 90% of your battle is over. It means everything is working and nothing's holding it back all through her system-hooray! Great job. I'm so glad you did it.
