Ok, thanks Mitzi, she only hatched out 2 chicks but for a first time mom she is doing awesome with them.  She is a LF Cochin which helps since they are know to be good mothers..

Cochins live to be mothers Mine is a Bantam Cochin (that I got from Robin 3 yrs ago now). My hen stole eggs from the other hens and crammed them under the shed and hatched them out. Sneaky little things.

OMG my rabbits are so deprived lol! How on earth do you come up with such awesome ideas?? Those rabbits aren't Flemish Giants, are they......?

No they probably wouldn't fit if they were. They are crosses, think the female is a chinchilla cross, and the boy a rex cross. I think once I have practiced my husbandry and tested my housing we will get silver fox rabbits for our main ones.

Speaking of Cochin...
I ordered more eggs (I know, I know), Cochin, large and bantam, possibly frizzled. Paid for 6 eggs, received 6 large fowl and 9 bantam. One busted. One had hairline cracks (but I'm hoping I waxed it well enough). I set the 5 remaining large fowl eggs in my Brinsea to try it out and put the bantam eggs under a broody hen. She (the broody) cracks me up. She was broody several weeks ago. The break in the heat seemed to help break her for a while. But now she's at it again. She's my girl that DOESN'T snap at me when I check under her. She just puffs up. Anyway, when I took the eggs to her, it was like I threw her a party. She was so excited! I'd put an egg next to her, and she'd roll it under her. So nice to see.
Again, as with my other mail order hatch this summer (3 out of 25), I'm not expecting much. But, I'm really hoping for a frizzled girl! I'm coming around to the idea of using broodies. Does anyone here use them for important (expensive, fancy, special) eggs?

I can't answer your question but I just gotta know what color cochins you ordered? Bantam cochins are one of my absolute favorite breeds! I have 2 mille fluer and 1 blue. My blue has started stealing eggs but hasn't gone broody yet.
And that's the absolute sweetest image of her being excited for eggs I hope she gets lots of babies!

and Trinity is wheezing- someone posted a higher dosage of tylan recommended by a vet, anyone remember the dosage? This girl is of course one of my favorites

State vet said for tylan 50 dose is 1-3 cc per bird per day, and breaking up the dose over the course of the day is better. If you're using tylan 200 it is 4x stronger so more like .25-.75cc per day.

It's going to be a surprise! The lady had many different ones pictured--black, splash, reddish/buff maybe? I really didn't want the bantam eggs, but their broodiness is making them more attractive. We shall see what makes it to hatch day!
How are your eggs coming along?

So far the eggs look good, out of 11 I've pulled 2 and there's another I'm iffy on. I'm alot less nervous about candling but a little worried about how often I will have to add water to increase humidity. I have this image of me with a water bottle just sitting next to the incubator for 3 days. Overkill? Probably. We're on day 11 now.
