***OKIES in the BYC III ***

WOW thats a beautiful set up @Ksane
Looks like all your pets are living the life.

We have 5 babies now, 1 more egg pipped, another not doing anything (yet:fl ), we're on day 20 now. Im really hoping for more than 4 hours of sleep tonight! Tomorrow is a busy day.

Oh! I forgot to post the pictures of the girls you gave me! I really really like them so very much!! I can't believe I got such cool girls and didn't have to outbid someone with the grocery money at an auction :gig
This is the view I kept getting of them when I'd get close to them with the camera lol

Well. I was trying to upload pics of their yard that looks like a cave under the tree but BYC isn't letting me upload. I'll try later.

@ashtree, here's some pictures for Arlo. The 1st picture is the rooster that's in with all these girls (and your girls), he's a Faverolles/Orloff mix I hatched myself 2 yrs ago. Just this week I took the other boys out of that yard and put a bunch of 4-6 mo old girls and some capons in there and he's delerious with joy  He's really good with youngsters, he hasn't even bred any of the girls, I think he thinks they're too young. The yard is entirely covered by a tree, I just love this yard and it's 20 degrees cooler under there. The branches on the outside hang down to the ground almost but the further you walk into the yard the higher up the branches are. There's no grass, just big stones and tree roots. That's what makes it look so cool (to me anyway). The yard next to it with the sheep & the A-Frame is one of the rooster yards, it's got 6 roosters in it. It's hard to see the fence but it's there.

Is that the boy that follows you waiting for you to sit so he can sit in your lap? He looks handsome and like the kind of guy that takes care of his ladies ;) what a beautiful set up. Do the bachelors just pace the fence all day? :gig Are the girls making friends?

No, that boy died, it about killed me :-( Someday in a year I'll tell you about it.mI can't hardly bear to think about it. I saved some of his feathers.
When I added girls for this rooster last week I put 3 groups of 4 or 5 in there, all the same age but they hadn't been together before. So they all thought they were being put into someone else's territory, no body knew they were *all new lol So not a single squabble.
The bachelors were just by the fence because I was out there lol Although I'm sure they are really jealous :)

That sounds a great idea putting together ones that don't know each other, must of been sweet watching them

I am new here to BYC, and had an OK specific question, that I was hoping someone might be able to shed some light on.

I am thinking about getting NPIP certified, to me legal to ship eggs, and I was wondering if anyone has went through the process here in OK? Is it really only $5, or are there some hidden charges? Do they just test the birds, and leave you be, or do they pile a bunch of red tape on you, and tell you that your coops and pens have to be a certain way? Does it add any maintenance costs?

Myself, I have no idea... but we do have several npip folks on this thread that will be able to give you the info when they next log in. Just know that it might be awhile. Seems to be a busy time for a bunch of our regulars!

Dang Nanakat, to take a big roo like that it would have to be a pretty aggressive raccoon, weasel or opossum.

Check out the colors on these Swedish Flower/Cream Legbar crosses. They're going to be gorgeous when they mature. These are the two I'd like to get to Sharkman Dan, and I have three more that are a little younger. They should lay a light green egg.

Those are some gorgeous birds! My daughter saw them and can't stop talking about them. I ptobably missed this part but where did you get them? Did you breed them yourself?
