Totally normal. It usually takes about 2 weeks after a move for normal laying to resume. Congrats on the new place! Would love to see pics once you get settled in!

Good to know! Thank you! If our coop wasn't so hodgepodge Id get a picture up of it, but it still needs a few more things.

My husband has taken an interest in the SFHs. Seriously, he's amazed by them. We saw one catch and eat a wasp, they devour maggots when we find them, and I saw 1 with a mouse yesterday! They are incredible! I think we want like 30!

They're so beautiful too. We have a coop plenty big, it was here when we moved in, just needs some new boards and a good paint job. Its not the prettiest thing but until we hit it big its gonna work

So heres a bee balm forest in the back, the 2 oldest boys are walking thro it

and this is the view from the behind the house, you see the metal coop to the right? Thats my next giant thing to tackle after the barn. The white one to the left is pretty nice, not sure what to do with it yet.

And this is the big pond in the very back of the property (not the ducks area)

They are hatching early! I checked the temp before starting with the same thermometer I've used before (and had late hatches). I'm thrilled thrilled that the bantam hatched, but I'm sad because they're were likely more I could have had. The lady sent me 9 bantam eggs. I put them under a broody. The broody didn't make it in the heat. I chose two to fill out my mini incubator just in case they were still viable. I can't believe the one made it!

One large fowl is out. Another is zipping. I'm excited to see if any are frizzled. Can anyone tell me what color these are by the down? They look the same to me.

Gotta go get the broody set up! I wasn't prepared for an early hatch!

A friend sent these photos' of a rare breed of chicken, called an Ayam Cemani.
Is anyone familiar with this breed? It's so strange looking, that it's difficult for me to look at. But, some of y'all might find it interesting, so I had to share it.
Since the inside of the egg shell is white, I guess that the egg, once out of the shell, is likely very normal.
Certainly, it would be a chicken for the "Goth" people.

Oh my gosh did a rough head count tonight while I dumped the waterers so I can worm everybody tomorrow. Should not have done that.....

Have had two predator attacks in the past two weeks. Both times at night leaving a headless carcass in the juvenile pen. We set traps the first time but caught nothing because of rains. Set traps tonight and hopefully should trap the critter...thinking possum or raccoon.

Oh my gosh did a rough head count tonight while I dumped the waterers so I can worm everybody tomorrow. Should not have done that.....

Lol. I've been avoiding that count myself.

Entered 9 chickens and 2 rabbits in the fair today along with 46 canned items and 26 garden entries. Found out our last mystery bird is a redcap rooster which is good because we have two redcap pullets. Now to build them their own pen so we can breed.

Ah man, that bites. We relocated a young possum last week and then watched a whole family of racoons cross the street into the yard of the empty house next door. Sigh. So far they haven't managed to get in.

Those are some odd looking birds. Not sure I could handle black eggs.
