***OKIES in the BYC III ***

My last post for the day, I promise! Here's a pic of my SFHs. The dark one is female, colorful one is male. I LOVE his coloring. Right now, I don't have plans to buy more and breed, but...does one hen throw such differently colored offspring? If I could make females that look like him, oh! What do you think breeding him with a (just for fun) Speckled Sussex or Jubilee would look like?

Since they're a landrace it's my understanding they don't breed true. But wow he's gorgeous! Post a profile shot when you can. I've fallen in love with ours and just won a bid for some eggs on BYC. Super excited for more diversity in the flock!

How old is he? When he molts and refeathers he should be a lot less mille fleur, but he'll still be pretty. Orlando looked a lot like that as a juvenile, and now he has something close to a mille-fleur-meets-wheaton pattern

Well I wasn't going to put my next one together for a while, but had a couple of people on another site ask for a tutorial, so I had to put one together to get pics for a tutorial. So here is the burgundy and orange background, I think it is my new favorite!

Wow, that's gorgeous.

I love quilts, working on one now, but as we all know, time gets away and it takes quite a while. That one looks like fall, beautiful colors.

I've been giving my girls suet over the winter and am getting ready to try my hand at suet blocks. About a month ago I bought rice flour by mistake, and just found this page that suggests using grain flours in suet blocks... I didn't think iI would ever find a use for that stuff. What do you guys think of the recipe including peanut butter? What do you guys use in suet blocks? And can you make any additional suggestions for using grain flours? Maybe with boiled potatoes?

I agree but glad to hear from an expert

@miohippus looks like 2 pullets to me! I love that first one!

That is a wonderful idea! I make suet for my local woodpeckers by saving the fat off of ground beef and putting bird seed in it. I will try some with scratch grains soon! Thanks for posting this!

11 weeks-ish. I didn't want another rooster, hadn't planned on keeping him, but I'm really good at chicken math. @ashtree, here's a profile pic. I guess I lied...I may post quite a bit today. It's hot, and I'm feeling lazy.

Edited: apparently BYC isn't liking pictures right now. I'll post one later.

LOOOOK!!! I finally got one of the guineas to eat out of my hand! It's Curly, though, and he/she thinks he/she's a chicken, so it may not count. :/

This is Blossom on the top, and Taffy on the bottom. They're two of the FlowerEEs I just put outside a little while back. I love Taffy's soft butter color overlaying the splash.
