I love the red of your birds too, I dont think I got any reds, might have to get in touch with you for some eggs in the future. Do yours lay much in the winter?Any day now I would think.... I'd say average age of lay for mine is 24-26 weeks, just a guess I don't actually track it. Is she reddening up in the face yet? Do you know how to check her pelvic bones?
If the feedstore orders their chicks from a hatchery then the chicks are NPIP. I would think that would always be the case but there may be exceptions, like if they have a local supplier.

Rest them for 12-24 hours pointy end down. Then DO NOT TURN for the first 5 days- keep them in an egg carton/turner if possible but keep them stable. This gives any ruptured air cells a chance to heal. Then incubate as normal. A "good" hatching

I had no idea I needed to wait 5 days before turning. Thanks for that! Im not expecting too much from the hatch, but they were a great price and I wanted to diversify my flock (even just a little bit) and it was fun to bid
LOVE the playhouse and I bet they do too! Looks very bright and cheery. We did hair chalk (on purpose) a few months ago and my kids ended up looking like a box of crayons as did everything in my house-pillows, the couch, clothes, carseats….everything. Arlo refused to wash his hair for fear he wouldn't have purple hair anymore (his favorite color). I hid the chalk and thankfully they've all forgotten.
I love your grey one-guess it's probably blue? She's beautiful. They all are but she's my favoriteROFL on the chalk! You can turn them from the beginning but it makes sense you might get a slightly better hatch if you let the air cells heal- and I HAVE seen them heal on shipped eggs. Oh yes Ki4got is AMAZING with SFH questions. You can PM her if you have any more specific questions I'm sure she'll answer. She explained that they are all red based (actually tri-colored- black, red, white)- but if you breed with a lot of splash birds you lose the third color (black) so it's better not to breed splashes much or at least don't do splash X splash. This will be my first winter with mature birds, they were too young to lay last winter, so I can't tell you how they will do. They are just finishing up their molt and coming back into lay, I got 4 eggs from 4 hens yesterday but only 1 egg today, so it's still a little spotty.

@lonnyandrinda yes, pelvic on my isbar still seems a little narrow, but she is reddening In the face. I'm not disappointed. It's like not being quite sure which day Santa is coming. Your playhouse is beautiful. Please tell me it's actually a playhouse and not a coop. Your helper worked way too hard to not get to play in it!
I read somewhere that wasps are less attracted to light blue. I painted the inside of a coop that color...actually seems to work, idk.

So we went with red white and blue instead. Going to stencil white stars on the shutters and door. I promised her the INSIDE could be pink and purple, except the chalkboard wall.
