***OKIES in the BYC III ***

Interesting about the light blue!  Yes it was so cute I couldn't bear to turn it into a coop!  DD wanted it pink and purple- DS (8yo) vetoed that idea.  ;)  So we went with red white and blue instead.  Going to stencil white stars on the shutters and door.  I promised her the INSIDE could be pink and purple, except the chalkboard wall.

Love it!

Yes.  I've found the best place to look for blue black splash is the tail feathers.  The rooster standing at attention is blue, the one bending over with his tail in the air is black.  The blue and white one is a blue, and the white one is a splash.  The mille fluer one is black.

Actually I've already got the batches saved for myself growing out.  Anything that hatches now is for sale, chicks are $10 each.  I know I have a few in the brooder, maybe 3-5 I'd have to check they have been selling pretty quick, the next batch is due Sunday.  Fertility is doing just OK, I think last batch about 80%.  Not sure if you want hatching eggs at that rate, but they are $4 each.

I'm gonna see how my hatch goes with these eggs (just recieved 15!) and I'll be in touch. When do you expect to have French copper marans chicks and or eggs?

@Ashtree....finally, a pic! I will sit down to read the sfh thread today.
@lonnyandrinda yes, pelvic on my isbar still seems a little narrow, but she is reddening In the face. I'm not disappointed. It's like not being quite sure which day Santa is coming. Your playhouse is beautiful. Please tell me it's actually a playhouse and not a coop. Your helper worked way too hard to not get to play in it!
I read somewhere that wasps are less attracted to light blue. I painted the inside of a coop that color...actually seems to work, idk.
@miohippus My pics weren't working yesterday. Your artwork is amazing!

Oh I love him! You got the only crested boy from the bunch, I did get 1 crested girl. Which is fine by me because I don't want to separate the crested. But he is so handsome, I love his coloring.

I've never heard about wasps and blue paint. We have them bad here. I don't mind not having black widows but in the month since we moved out here we've had 6 stings. That's too many for 4 weeks!

I'm going to try to get the rabbit hutch area finished today. This bunny is ready to move outside!

OK just let me know.

I've had the worst luck ever with Black Copper Marans. Last winter between dog attacks and illness I was down to 2 hens. Now I have 5 BCM hens and 1 splash marans hen, but lost THREE BCM roosters over the course of the summer, one after another. I guess the heat?? None of them were very old. Didn't lose a single hen in that pen, only roos. So anyway I'm waiting for the next batch of boys to grow out, they are about 3 months old right now and I'm not culling ANYONE until the very end LOL!

Good luck! I love seeing everyone's projects. It gets the ideas flowing.

My girl is crested too! That's why I was trying to decide what to do with him...use him to experiment with mixes or buy more SFHs. We all know what the answer is...BOTH.

My original intent of chicken-keeping was a rainbow of egg colors. (Which means I want your Croad Langshans, Rinda!) I know my BBS Copper Marans and my BBS Ameraucanas will produce Olive Eggers. What do you think a Black Barnevelder over a Blue Isbar would look like? Anyone have favorite "mixes"?

LOL! The chicken or the egg? Black X Blue will give you 50% black and 50% blue chicks, probably between the two breeds in size, with lightly feathered legs. Eggs would be green or light olive.
