***OKIES in the BYC III ***

Ok, got the call from the hospital and surgery is on for Monday....don't know the time yet until they call me back this evening.
Running around like a chicken without a head trying to get accomplished all those last minute projects before then.

This Saturday in Norman at the fairgrounds. Starts at 9.

I've had kind of a crappy chicken day. DH sweetly surprised me with bantams from Atwoods, the last of the bin. So you know what that means right??? All boys. I can't be 100% sure yet, but I'm about 80%. It's just such a bummer. I don't know what to do with them. I'm so frustrated.

@lonnyandrinda so sorry about all the loss you've had with the bcms. They are not a cheap breed! I'm sure you know that ;)

Oh my!

I moved the SFH teenagers into the big coop today with the bantam Cochins. Anyone want to guess what a SFH x blue bantam Cochin would make?

Idk, but I'd love to see a crested cochin. ;)

LOL!  The chicken or the egg?  Black X Blue will give you 50% black and 50% blue chicks, probably between the two breeds in size, with lightly feathered legs.  Eggs would be green or light olive.

Both! I know the blue genetics, and the egg color, but was really wondering how/if the lacing of a barnevelder would show on an isbar...two such friendly breeds. And I'd love a very speckled olive egg! How are your Langshans doing? I have a broody I'm thinking about letting have at it. And I'll be in Tulsa on Sunday. ;)

Another genetic question.  I have a LF Blue Cochin (my avitar) over LF Black Cochin hens.  Will I get Black, Blue and Splash?

Should just get blue and black.

I may just have to jump on that chicken train.... Would you mind bringing back chicks? I just sent @lonnyandrinda a PM.

Let me check the brooders and see what I have left. I've promised 4 SFH chicks to someone else but they can have the ones hatching Sunday. The Langshans are doing great, I've shipped out all the eggs for the last two weeks so I only have what few are in the brooders and whatever hatches Sunday. I'll check the brooders for SFH and Langhans and let you know what I have in a few hours.

NanaKat, is it rotator cuff surgery you're having? I was out of the loop for a couple of weeks and am not sure. Will send thoughts and prayers your way in any case.

just picked up some new bantam babies. they all have feathery legs and feet, took some quick pics was wondering if anyone knew what kind of bantams they might be???? I'll catch all the way up on the thread and post better pics later tonight but I have to go for now, gotta go watch my 5yr old cheer for the home team tonight and i have a billion things to do.

I've been out running errands all day and got a shock when I got home just now: I've got eggs popping like popcorn in my turners! There are chicks sitting in the egg cups, fully zipped eggs, eggs with pips and chicks that had fallen and were wedged between the door and the bottom tray! They were set Sept 16th for an Oct 7th hatch date. Lock down wasn't until tomorrow. What on earth could've caused them to hatch this early? My dates are not wrong because I date them as I get them out the nest boxes. These were laid the 15th & 16th of September.

Then the incubator was running warmer than you thought. Have you double checked your thermometer? The house may be have been running "warm" since it was so hot until a few days ago.
