I'm planning to take silkies and showgirls (naked neck silkies) to Chupps auction near Inola/Chouteau tomorrow morning--Several nice fairly young roosters and around 8 youngsters ( about two Months old), that are too young to be certain of gender.

I would guess cochins with as heavy as that foot feathering is.
NanaKat ; Y'all are about to work me to death just readin' this. Kinda miss those days, but not.We are butchering quail tomorrow and working on finishing the coops, also need to get cattle tags engraved for those that have lost theirs. My "to do" list has a few projects that can wait. May not get the roosters thru freezer camp until after surgery on Monday.
Had to move cows home from pastures and wean calves the past several days...took longer than we thought.
Worked on the pantry today rotating the home canned veggies. I can't believe all the food we put up this year and last year.
Fed the chickens some older canned goods...sauerkraut, peppers and some pumpkin that had darkened. They went crazy running around with goodies in their beaks....should have had the camera.
Congrats!I've been out running errands all day and got a shock when I got home just now: I've got eggs popping like popcorn in my turners! There are chicks sitting in the egg cups, fully zipped eggs, eggs with pips and chicks that had fallen and were wedged between the door and the bottom tray! They were set Sept 16th for an Oct 7th hatch date. Lock down wasn't until tomorrow. What on earth could've caused them to hatch this early? My dates are not wrong because I date them as I get them out the nest boxes. These were laid the 15th & 16th of September.
Thank you! Most are doing great. It looks like some of the breeds I have are more prone to the early development under high heat than others. It was the light eggs that all hatched yesterday and throughout the night. The blue Araucanas eggs and the little tan Cochin x Marans mix eggs, but non of the dark brown pure bred Marans eggs have even peeped.Congrats!I've heard of high incubator temps causing an early hatch, but that is usually only a day or two not 4, not sure what would have caused that, but glad they are doing so well![]()
