***OKIES in the BYC III ***

I'll take him. I'm in the middle of building the breeding pens for the CL and another for as-yet-unknown chickies, so he can go in the unused pen with my fluffiest of ladies. Hopefully my ladies won't end up being boys. Rinda, DO NOT LOOK AT THEM!

I won't look either.
I won't even think about them, that's dangerous also

I stole this from Facebook. Too funny not to share.

I see people asking about "chicken math", so here's how I broke it down for my friends and family that think I have a "problem"...

Follow this guide to figure out how many chickens you have...
Free chickens don't count
Chicks don't count as they are just fast outdoor dust bunnies
Hens that aren't laying don't count...chickens lay eggs
Roosters don't count because, again, chickens lay eggs
Ornamentals don't count as they are just lawn decor...think plastic pink flamingos
Bantams don't count because they are just big chicks, and chicks are just fast outdoor dust bunnies
A meat bird counts as a negative 1 (-1) because once sent to freezer camp, you have to replace it
Laying hens count as half a chicken because they are basically just a storage facility for eggs ....
so I have 3 chicks, 5 roos, 4 laying hens, 1 male guinea (not a chicken and is male so roo?), a set of ducks (not chickens), 8 ladies in waiting...so I only have 2 chickens...wait, 3 of those roos will go to freezer camp soon, so that would equal out to I have -1 chickens...so I need to buy 2 more just to have one chicken, right?
so according to this i don't have any chickens, lol because i have 6 bantam hens and one bantam roo. 6 polish hens(ornameentals) and one polish roo. one EE who is not laying and 4 chicks.

Look at that sweet and precious baby!!! I'm so glad to hear your little peeper is up and peeping again! And Mitzi... thank you SO MUCH. Jeansrie, I can come get him after work next week if that works for you. Or if you can hold him until next Friday, I can swing by on the way out to the Coweta auction. That would save me a bunch of miles, but I don't want your neighbors to show up on your doorstep with torches and pitchforks.

Wow, I need to buy some chickens. I'm at -21. Who'd a thunk it, with all those birds in my yard.

This is a HUGE shout out to Ksane, Kyzmette, NanaKat, Lonnyandrinda, and everyone who said a prayer that my little Cream Legbar baby would make it! She is outside and doing great!! The hole that was once larger than a dime in her chest wall and allowing air into her body cavity is totally healed! Thank you SO much for all your advice and hand-holding. I am TRULY grateful!!
:thumbsup So glad to hear!
You did a great job helping that baby survive.
NanaKat does meeker still have a sale barn west of town
The sale barn i think you mean is east of town and used to have cattle sales on weekends. It is still there but not having sales anymore. It is currently a resting station for horses being shipped to slaughter. That sale barn is on 5 acres on a corner out of our farm. We have never had anything to do with the sale barn but get a lot of people stopping to ask questions about the horses.

I was looking at the different kinds of chickens just about 15 min ago. I think chickens are beautiful. I live in South East Kentucky. I only have Rhode Island Reds and Golden Comets. I only have about 30 hens and One Rooster. I let them free range all the time except winter. They have a coop and covered fenced area for winter. I am a retired nurse and the chickens keeps me busy..

I am pleased to say that my lil Jap bantam and her 6 week old young are comfy in their new home tonight. She moved them in at 4 weeks of age on her own, but the residents were not happy, and squabbles have been going on for weeks. That's not all. Another jap hen with her 4 week old chicks is trying to coax her young into the coop now. I'll have a coop full by winter. I see the heat lamp is will have to be moved to a safer location.
