***OKIES in the BYC III ***

I don't think it is accurate to say they NEVER molt until 18 months old. It depends on the age of the chickens when fall rolls around. If your chicks were hatched before about March, there is a good chance they will still molt in their first fall, but may or may not stop laying that first time through. Chick hatched after that and through the summer USUALLY don't. That has been my experience anyway.

Totally agree, there are so few things that can athoritively said to be "always or never"

@Kassaundra I am truely sorry to hear about your loss as well as , @NanaKat ,and @miohippus

Question for duck people, i have a very thin duck hen, staggering when she walks, can't feel an egg, safeguarded her yesterday, gave her nutridrench today- on a side note, she grabbed the nutridrench dropper and slung it across the room i don't think she likes it!! LOL!

My oldest(7) went to get eggs when he got home from school. He dropped one and left it.

I am hoping they don't all turn into egg eaters! Any suggestions?

Could your duck hen have external and/or internal parasites? Lice and worms can make a plump bird waste away.

@NanaKat, I'm so sorry about Big Blue :-( If you would like to have back or borrow the one I got from you, you're more than welcome. I believe he's Big Blue's son (?).

Yes, your cockerel is Big Blue's son.
I actually have a nice dark Blue Splash, a young Black as well as a lighter Blue cockerel from the Cochin pen. The blues are out of Big Blue and the Black may be Black Bart's.

I toss soft shell and cracked eggs to my hens. They love them and I've never had hens turn into egg eaters.
