***OKIES in the BYC III ***

Been away for a while, life and laziness. Doing art shows and making inventory makes for a dull life. The good news, I finally get to stop buying eggs. Only took 5 weeks for the reds. Now I'm waiting on the Marans.

I dont know if anyone remembers, but a month or more ago I got I chick I thought was a serama and then decided must be an OEGB. Now Im starting to think its actually a serama. Its SUPER tiny and has yellow legs, I dont know enough about the breed to know either way, Ill post pictures later, but I am really hoping it is not a serama, not that I wouldn't love that much cuteness, but I have no way to keep a chicken inside long term. So is it possible for a hatchery to have seramas? Does that ever happen?

The breeder from whom I purchased my two pair of Seramas keeps his birds outside year round in portable tractors. If the birds are raised outside and conditioned for it, they don't have to be house birds.
If the bird you have is hatchery, it has been in a hatchery environment. You might contact the hatchery and ask about where the birds were contained/maintained.

That's good to know. Mines been outside with larger buddies for weeks. It's been fully feathered for some time, it's just tiny. But it is with older cochins so could just be an optical illusion thing! It shows no sensitivity to the cold. I was watching it closely this morning and it was one of the first out of the coop. I think I maybe just got a hatchery OEGB and so leg coloring is a little off. But boy does this little chick have short legs. It's pretty cute.

as far as i know no hatcheries have seramas.  some OEGB can be very small  can you post a pic that would help id it also i have been told seramas have very large eyes idk if that is true or not though

Now I have to look up this eye thing! I think you're probably right and it's an OEGB. I got nervous today with the weather and all. But I will try to post a picture tomorrow. I love the shape of the chick. It's different from any other breed I have here.

Earthquake about 6 minutes ago is the strongest one I've felt--maybe just closer, but it shook harder, though it didn't last long.

I put a couple of "hobbit hole" tires in the buns pen, and man do they love them. They were all over and in. Just a tire cut in 1/2 put one 1/2 in front of the other 1/2 and mound dirt on one end so it doesn't form a wind tunnel.
