Hmmmm... I went and got myself a dilemma. Anybody else ever feel like the kid in the candystore that's already getting a bellyache?

I know I swore I wasn't going to hatch this year. So now after the Coweta auction the Brinsea is full, and I had to pull out the styrofoam bator for the additional dozen and a half that wouldn't fit in the Brinsea... and I just found out I won an Ebay bid on a dozen White Faced Black Spanish eggs I totally forgot I bid on! In my defense, I was sick and couldn't sleep, and it was after 2am on a work night, but still! I finally made a decision on what my project bird will be, so I'm going to have to make one more purchase, but that's it! I'm going to Chickaholics!

I have hatching shame.

Oh Coral, after telling you about how Isa eats, I have to mention this. I gave the kids the option of glazed donut, bagel, or yogurt with granola for breakfast this morning. Isa thought that yogurt and granola was one of the best things ever! Until she tasted my vegetarian black bean breakfast sandwich, and she wants that tomorrow. My seven year old health nut.

My husband wants to know if hatching shame is contagious...he wants me exposed.

Back on the thread after a few weeks - catching up now. Had a lovely visit with ArtsyRobin a few days back. Cheyenne is enjoying Puzzle, and both kids loved the road to Robin's house.
Had to fire up the incubator today - went to the Newcastle auction... it was PACKED. Left about 1130pm and they had only gotten to lot 16 of the big birds. Left there with a wonderful trio of barred rocks. Two dozen eggs (one cream legbar, one 'americauna') and 10 chicks - 6 cream legbar and 4 silkies ((two paint)). @muesky @mjgigax Missed you there! But - there was no table, nor room for a table at the back. I am guessing that you guys wore yourselves out at the Coweta auction...
The coolest thing, though, is that they had a half dozen of the Ayami Cemani eggs. Those went for 200.00!
Tons of turkeys. About a half dozen peacocks/hens - even one white one.
There was even a pair of Sebastapol geese. 4 or so Huestecs, and a few more breeds that I have never heard of.
The blrw's were selling for tons of money too - 26 for a dozen eggs. Dang! Should have put some of mine into a breeding pen just for the eggs...
Had to put down our first silkie tonight. I just couldn't clear her of the resp disease, and she was definitely suffering with every breath. She was the kids first 'showmanship' bird, because she was just so adorable, smaller and very good natured. I think we got her about 4 years ago - already a hen. Any ideas on an expected lifespan? She has been healthy this entire time up until now - and this was all the while bossing the birds around in the main flock. When we got her, we didn't have silkie pens. RIP. You were a great bird.

Apparently it's REALLY hard to get.... and I hear it passes too quickly to have long-term symptoms. I have this horrible feeling it's one of those things I could get over and over again.

Thank you for sharing Isa's grownup decision making. I used to eat smashed black beans with sliced jalapenos on toast. I should go back to that as a breakfast food. I need to eat more spicy food, but I haven't been able to train DH to eat anything hotter than a banana pepper. Oh, and I think health nut is too light a phrase for such a grownup action. I think you should use the older Latin phrase mens sana in corpore, which loosely translated means a sound mind in a sound body.

Oh no! It's no wonder I can't stop. My incubators have been ready for weeks, but I hadn't started collecting eggs until Friday at the Coweta sale. I spend 50% of my day outside on weekends, if it's not raining or snowing, so I'll just have to accept that I've got a hatching addiction and find ways to keep it under control.

Yep...I have the addiction but not the symptoms of shame...yet...
