***OKIES in the BYC III ***

A few pics of Qtip and her chicks

They are So Cute and that is a beautiful hen!
I love showing people, who don't know a lot about chickens, my Showgirls. They cannot hide their shock, or ask if I plucked their neck feathers. Tonight a little 3 yr. old just lit up with a big grin. He knew that my bird was perfectly fine.
I finally got some good pics of Ragnar, my roo. He is usually too busy protecting his hens to stand still enough to pose for a photo.

Here are the pics of the newest hatches this morning. 3 are out so far, couldn't pic the cutest pose so there are 3 poses of each chickie doo. Look at that top knot! Styling w/ the white eye liner I'm very nervous about letting a broody try and raise a naked chick.
cool is that a roo like the rudster what percentage of naked necks chicks are all naked.

No percentage of NN are totally naked. The naked neck gene has absolutely nothing to do w/ the scaleless gene. Any chicken even a English Orpington (those have lots of feathers right???) that had a double hit of scaleless gene would be naked. Yes it is a new hatched chick in my flock.

Loving Qtip and Ruju and the siblings. She is a gorgeous hen. Congratulations on the new babies! Ragnar is stunning

My day finally ended at 11:30 pm. It has been a long but productive day that started this morning with opening coops, feeding birds, a little gardening, planting, two trips to bottle feed the calf and run preg check the cows, two loads of laundry, a trip into town to mail a package, dinner in Prague, running the weed walker around the garden beds, feeding and watering birds again as they were cooped up, and then boiling, peeling and pickling quail eggs

Wayne...your package is on its way is on its way.

No Bella has never restarted laying eggs, so no Bella / Rudy chicks. I haven't started AI in Rudy, mostly b/c I don't have a place yet to isolate a girl or two for the procedure, they get so distressed when I put them in w/ Rudy and the buns, they can see their friends but can't get to them.

I can't imagine why Bella hasn't restarted laying. Is it possible she's laying but eating the eggs before you see them? Occasionally some of mine will eat their eggs.

The crew came out and replaced our roof yesterday. Worked very hard and fast for 12 hours, with only a break for lunch and rest. Late in the day, the foreman took it upon himself to clean out our front cement paving brick walk that goes the length of our house and wraps around our front porch, as well as the rr tie/cement paving brick stairs leading up into the yard from the walk. This walk drains the rain from that area of our front yard, which is fairly steeply sloped down to the house. There was at least 5 years of leaves and debris covering that walk before he cleaned it out. I imagine he was surprised to find the paving under all that. It would have taken me at least two full days to do that work and although it was on the list, it was not quite my priority. Five years of knee surgeries and recoveries have reduced my ability to do the heavier yardwork, but the knees now work pretty well and Vashi and I are working hard to bring this jungle back into some kind of shape. I offered to pay him for this extra work, but he refused. Asked him if he lives in Tulsa and has a yard where he could plant things, and when he indicated his wife loves to grow things, dug him two small golden raintrees, a small redbud, a small red flowering Japanese Quince, a Kerria Japonica, a couple of big pots of American Legion Poppies, a couple of nice irises, a nice start of variegated Vinca, and a purple violet. He insisted on helping dig the trees and seemed happy about all of these starts. That's one advantage of an overgrown yard that was once nice--there are lots of things to share. then he used his leaf blower to clean off the front porch, moving the few things on it around so he could clean it all. Vashi also offered to pay him, which he also refused.

IT is so good to look out the front door and windows and see that walk cleaned off! There are still a lot of nice people in this world!
