***OKIES in the BYC III ***

I think my new yellow baby from Atwoods looks very similar to your yellow one.. Now about 3 weeks old, she (thinking positive) is also starting to get brown feathers on her chest. Any idea what it is? This picture is a week old.

There's no telling what she is for sure until she's got her adult feathers. Too many breeds start as little yellow babies :)

Hi ya'll! Life has been crazy, as usual, seems there's never enough time in the day. Tried catching up but there's toooooo many post's! So, happy hatching, gardening, replanting from frostbite, enjoying baby chick's, spring, and everything else going on. I hope I covered the majority :)

Happenings here: I purchased 10 fertilized eggs and only managed to get one to hatch. Lessons learned: have your broody girls in a broody house to themselves! Other chickens will push them from the nest to lay & break the broody girls eggs .... I was SO sad.
Have dealt with my first spring virus scare & am pleased to say so far all seem to be doing okay. Finally had to give Tylan 200 injections to one of my broody girls when she started sounding "raspy". She's doing better! BUT, this morning it appears she has bumblefoot. Looks like my next lesson is doing the surgery, wish me luck!

Good news: when only one egg hatched I decided to buy chick's and give to my two girl's & they're all doing great!

I tried posting a pic from this phone, but appears it didn't work, oh well, maybe when my son brings my laptop home.

Take care til next time :)

well foo not sure what to do i have been sick so have not checked on my broody girl very well, it has been three weeks saw her off the nest and her food bowl was empty so deiced to check found one dead chick look like maybe it had an unabsorbed yolk maybe because it had a large hole in its tummy(don't know if a mom hen would try and eat it if it did?). so i checked the other eggs no pips in any of them i candled and the looked dark expt the air sack saw a few veins. but they felt cool to the touch and idk if she is going to go back to them or not she has not yet do you think the rest are duds? Or should i just weight and see if she gose back to sitting on them give them a couple more days?

I don't think so. We would be grateful for anything! The club is just getting started so the kids will be first time showers. You should bring you kids! It's the 3rd Thurs of every month at the Cleveland Co Ag office.
I'll have some guineas hatching off in about another month. I have about 9 doz set in my Sportman's Cabinet Incubator.

I would put the eggs to my ear and tap listen for peeping or tapping back, then water candle if any signs of life I would assist hatch and have the incubator turned on for icu while assisting hatch.

We've been working out logistics for adding chickens to go with our garden here in town and are just about to take the plunge. I've got one daughter researching layers, and we're thinking of rotating a dozen for meat birds every couple months. Yes, we've got plenty of room... it's one of those lots where the city didn't put in a street, so the yard's a block long from front curb to back fence.

I was bemoaning the shocking expense of screening a whole run, maybe modifying a hoop house plan. UGH!! Upon re-re-re-reading the ordnance, it seems that the relevant direction says: "kept in a building which at its nearest point is no closer than fifty (50) feet ... shall be screened to prevent the spread of disease by flies..." Upon reflection, my family is kept in the house, but doesn't spend all, or much, of their days inside it; likewise, the other pets, etc. So, screened "house" and open run?

What kind of interactions have Tulsa residents had with the city either way?
Has anyone in town, in Tulsa Oklahoma, had problems keeping this many??
How strictly has this screening requirement been applied???

Put egg in warm water (like in a glass) and watch for movement, if there is a live chick inside the egg will move. (let it settle from placing it first) Only can be used for near hatch past due eggs early in the incubation eggs will sink not float and bob.
