***OKIES in the BYC III ***

i noticed my other calico chocin has bubbles under her eye and it is swollen around it will tetracycline work for respiratory illness or do i need something else.

I'd get her on tylan asap, it works well on respiratory-

Dosage is 1 cc injected into the breast muscle 2 xo a day for 5-7 days, 1/2cc for smaller birds. Inject just under the skin and alternate breasts and dont inject into the same site.

I keep Tylan200 instead of Tylan50. I just have to give one shot a day instead of two.
For respiratory I also like to use Oxytetracycline in water. I've found the chickens readily drink it so it is better tasting than Gallimycin and Denegard. I mix it at dusk and let it be the only water for the pen to drink. I fix it fresh each evening for five days.

Hello all. For anyone who would like some young pullets, there is a gentleman who is going to be bringing some 22 wk old Red Ranger pullets to Perry, to sell. He plans on being here Thursday or Friday. He said they are beginning to lay. They will be $10 ea. If you might be interested, please let me know, so I can give him an estimate on how many to bring.

I also have a Buff Orpington that has just gone broody if anyone is interested in a broody hen. I'd sell her for $20. Thanks all, and stay safe!

I don't use Tylan, but I did start a thread with all of the Tylan info I could find. If I ever decide to use it I will use the injectable orally twice a day at these rates:

Chickens
Tylan 50 - 1/2 ml per pound orally twice a day
Tylan 200 - 1/4 ml per pound orally twice a day

When injected, Tylan can cause severe, permanent muscle damage.

What to do, with a broody, that has been brooding FIVE weeks now, without a hatch?
I know the eggs she's setting on, are fertile, because, in the beginning, she had too many eggs, and I stole some from her, to put in the incubator. They hatched two weeks ago.
She seems very diligent, and very protective. She eats an egg here and there, I would guess because she needs to supplement her diet. I just don't get it. I've only seen her off the nest, once, in five weeks, and that was a very brief time (<2 minutes), more than 3 weeks ago. I'm certain that she's done so, more than that, but, so seems very determined. But, I can't understand why nothing has hatched.
Thoughts?

Find you some day old babies and stick them under her at night and take her eggs away. She should accept the babies if she's been sitting that long.
