Well a stupid snake killed one of my 9 week old crested cream legbar chicks. I moved the chicks outside to a pen in the horse barn and just found the dead chick with a slimy head.

Wouldn't you like to catch the #%*^"*^#%}{.~><,\]] an just tie them in a knot!

on the snake issue- am trying 'fox urine' near the nest boxes, suddenly i am getting eggs again

We had water at 8:00 p.m., but it was just a trickle.  By 9:00, I was able to water all the animals.  DH says the main line was cut at the bridge between Muskogee and Taft.  I lost a silkie hen and a black-tailed buff marans hen to the heat, and I think if I'd been able to wet their pens and give them puddles to stand in, they wouldn't have passed.  I'm putting more containers of water into the chest freezer today to replace those that I used yesterday.  Without that frozen water, I think I would have lost a lot more birds.

Cheap insurance. I put this at my daughters yesterday. This goes a long ways for everyone

They aren't making these meds anymore so they won't be in whatever they were. We can probably do without them being in the food or whatever they were in to begin with. Having a few fish meds around isn't a bad thing though just in case something is needed

It's not about not making the meds. It's about the FDA making the meds RX only to reduce antibiotic overuse. From my understanding this applies right now mainly to meds added to feed- and that they may be expanding it to meds added to water. Some meds are no longer allowed in combination but singally they are OK. Tylan, Penicillin, Oxytetracycline, and Tetracycline are on this list. Corid/Sulmet and Denagard are not. For now this does not affect injectable versions. I'm unsure on whether it affects powdered versions yet but I'm guessing it does. This is going to be a tough change for those of us used to treating our birds ourselves without a vet visit.

I can't afford a vet visit every time a bird gets sick. I'll just have to go without birds.

It is possible to have healthy birds w/o meds, I've had birds for over 3 years and not given a mg of any meds.

I would definitely treat for coccidiosis, if I ever have it. I have never had the problem yet so have never had to treat.
