***OKIES in the BYC III ***

I just found out I'm bout to be known as PaPa With the Chickens!!!! My daughter is pregnant and I can't wait to teach'em bout chickens, shooting, fishing n hunting and stuff woohoo

Congratulations!

A few years back my flock was hit by fowl pox and before I could identify it had run rampant, I lost my best and favorite hen that I had had for at least 10 years, it hurt so bad I am still missing her as she was my baby. Any how if you are not quick enough to vaccine your birds I found out later by accident if they develop the wet pox the deadly kind, you can mix 2 ounces of ordinary store bought apple cider vinegar into one gallon of their water and it will get them through it but you must catch it before it stops them from drinking. I have had excellent results with this. It also works well to de-mite pigeons especially feather mites which I have spent much money on cures that don't work. Hope this helps someone. Darrel  PS  I keep apple cider vinegar in my birds water at all times for safety insurance.

:welcome. Sorry to hear about your loss.

This has been a really strange gardening year!  My green beans didn't even start blooming until mid summer, and didn't seem to be setting.  However, NOW they are producing quite a bit.  I don't have a very big garden, but have picked two 5 gallon buckets of green beans and three dozen tomatoes in two pickings this week.  I didn't heed NanaKat's advise about preparing tomato plants for fall tomatoes, but just left both tomatoes and green bean vines in place.  Haven't even been watering.  The green beans are really very nice--much nicer than in the correct season last year.  The tomatoes are smaller, but more flavorful and prettier (less broken skin because of too much water) than they've been all season.  They've produced quite well.  Imagine what they would have done if I'd followed Katheryn's advice!  I'm amazed at green beans in October--sown in early spring!

It's your green thumb and Mother Nature teaming up!

Not off topic. It's all about poultry.

Afton will have 2 more swaps. The next swap is this coming weekend, the 17th & 18th.
The last one will be next month, November 14th & 15th.
Which way will you be going to it from? The reason I ask is that their may be a detour as the bridge is out right next to it.

We will be coming from East Tulsa area using the turnpike. Where exactly is the swap meet held ? We will be at both meets if we can find it !
Silkies, Sizzles young, muscovy ducklings to sell. Maybe a trio of Blue Sizzles - 1 year old. Mostly pets on wire. This summer brought out some pretty good heads on the blue Silkys.
Thank you so much for the information. My husband was just laid off last week. Love the the Oil & gas business !

Good luck, I hear you. My hubby has been laid off since the end of June. National defense contractor employer. Gotta cut where you can, I was just telling my hubby some roos I've been holding on to need to be sold for dinner or become our dinner. Can't feed 'em if they don't produce!

I can't kill em or at least I know I couldn't eat them ! Aren't Natl Defense Contractors important ? My husband has 47 years in Oil & Gas pipeline work. I fear it's gonna get a lot worse. Wait til Wms people have to reapply for jobs available at EFE or worse completely laid off. Willbros was just purchased by TRR out of Mass.

No one is important to politicians when they want to argue at the last minute and use the budget as the tool to bargain. All contractors, federal officers/agents and federal civilian workforce don't get paid if they go over the timelines. Officers/agents are expected to work anyway. Contractors lose out by them simply extending the budget and not deciding.
.Gov has become an iffy proposition with our politicians going the way of the Romans. It's not as good a gig as many think cause of corruption and indecisiveness.
Things like this make the chinese, middle eastern n russians smile as they wait.
I don't want to eat my girls neither but when I get hungry it's a week or so that I'll do fine and have protein with meat n eggs for what is coming.
The oil and gas industry is always up n down. My buddy is one of the few I ever seen do it right by banking it when it's good n living on it when he's laid off. He lives modestly during good times.
I'm gonna pray for everyone, on their jobs, including the "leadership". Looks like it might be a tough few months or so. I'm wishing the best for you all.

He worked for a company that contracts with the navy to make parts for naval vessels. We knew when we hired on that layoffs were common and cyclical with the current bids the company had lined up. Still sucks we got cut after only 2 1/2 years.

Thanks. Something will come along. We are trying to enjoy the extra time together as a family and get some things done around the property that we have been meaning to do.
