***OKIES in the BYC III ***

Been dealing w/ vets all morning.  Tucker is no better and the vet said he should be if the meds were going to help.  The "specialist" vet we were referred to is convinced he has slipped 2 disks (back and neck) even though he has never known of one to slip 2 in different spots at once.  Anyway for the test to tell if it is a slipped disk is 2200, for the surgery w/o complications around 4000 (that includes the cost of the test)  plus extra if it is 2 locations (but they weren't sure how much extra).  I think we are going to increase the doses of his meds (pain and steroid)  for this week and see if any changes so we will know for sure there was enough time and meds if it were some other issue.  If no changes we will end his pain.

Sorry to hear that. Tough deal

I'm so sorry to hear Tucker is still having difficulty. Sure hope the increased meds help.
If the disks have slipped, would massage or water therapy help any? At his age, surgery could be difficult. It is a hard time. Will be thinking of you.

Just turned off the last canner full of hominy. Started at 10:00 this morning preparing the corn for the hominy. Takes hours to turn dried corn into the puffed corn for hominy. The canning in jars is a breeze and the canners do the rest. Can't beat the taste of fresh hominy. I use the old fashioned method of using food grade lye. Ended up with 30 pints.

There are pheasant hatching today...so far two of the four have popped out. and there are 9 lf and bantam due on the 7th that I moved to the hatcher tonight.

The possible frost on Sunday morning means we will strip the garden Friday or Saturday. Looks like I'll be making some tomato pickles.

Traded me some eggs for bell and jalapeño peppers. My winter wheat from moving the coop around is coming in nicely lol

Phyllis is showing her inner tomboy.

Does this make my butt look big? I may be a tomboy, but a girls still gotta look good!
Phyllis is looking good! Sorry about Tucker. Have you contacted OSU Vet school in case they are any cheaper, etc?

What exactly are you hoping to find? Specific breeds? Egg layers or dual purpose? Bantam or large fowl? How much are you willing to spend? How far are you willing to travel? It's really hard to know what to suggest without a little more information from you.

I'm in Coweta, in purebreeds right now I have Black Copper Marans chicks and eggs for sale. Most of my other breeds I'm having spotty fertility or they are not laying due to molt. It's a hard time of year to find good hatching eggs.
I'm not too particular. I would be happy with dual purpose or good egg layers. I have large fowl now, so no bantams. I would love to have a little more variety in my egg baskets. Maybe some Marans or Easter Eggers of some kind, Buckeyes and other heritage breeds interest me. Just figured a little variety might be nice. I'm not sure I want to spend too much or travel far. She hasn't had a brood before, so I don't want to invest too much just in case. I will possibly be in the Ada/Allen area this weekend in case anyone in that area might have some.

I have both Marans and Easter Eggers available right now. Also Sapphires but they are an egg layer not dual purpose (Cream Legbar X White Leghorn; blue egg layer). I'm way over in Coweta though. Hopefully you can find some closer!

Working on some wool sweaters for them. The two larger ones (Rudy and Hudini) have the front and back of the sweaters. And the two smaller ones (Phyllis and Stripey Butt) are made out of the sweater sleeves. Adult small and medium sizes. Rudy wore a wool sweater all last winter and did well. I have altered the design a little to fix a few issues.

These are inside out for now I was marking and measuring for leg straps

Kass - Your designs are fabulous.

A tornado touched down in Haskell. We're ten miles from town, and so far all we've had is heavy rain and wind.

This morning, before all the bad weather, I had a visit from the chicken-food-dish inspector. She's very particular about the cleaning and filling of her food dish. Most days, I don't mind that she's a control freak and wants to dictate from the highest possible perch. Today, however; she turned my jacket into a mono print.

The wind just picked up. It's time to shut down the computers.
