***OKIES in the BYC III ***

Kass, I have no clue on what is happening with the Brinsea. could the gauge for the humidity be off calibration? Can you turn off the fan or cover the eggs with a damp paper towel?
I really like my Hovabators. I use two for incubating and one as a hatcher.

I had a lovely visit with Robyn and her hubby...we exchanged roosters. Happy to see the Cochin bantam getting a harem of girls.
Ansel the Seabright will have some lovely Rosecomb hens once he is out of quarantine. He nibbled treats from my fingers and chattered all the way home.
I've been trying to get all my soaps made this week....in between cleaning coops, helping with the cattle and all the other normal chores....there are never enough days in the week.

At least the house smells good .with all the trays of curing soaps.

Hmm that's really weird. I had that happen once and I did help the babies out. I have had to deal more sticky chicks cause of high humidity than shrink wrapping. On my next hatch I might try to stick my incubator inside of a closed cardboard box to see if that helps maintain proper temp and humidity.

Don't close it up too tight, they still need airflow exchange.

I don't know if my corrected message posted. The show/sales rooms at Shawnee open at 3 p.m. today, and people start coming in to buy soon after that. It opens again at 7 a.m. Saturday, and judging starts at 9. People are in and out all day, but must stay out of the rows when the judges are in them.

They try to close down as quickly as they can, I think usually early to mid-afternoon. Once they complete the judging, including the top honors and then make the awards, everything moves out quickly!

Oh, that sounds good. I had no idea it was Friday and Saturday. I will try and go today since my husband is off work today to see the birds maybe pick up a few silkies. This will be my first time if I make it out there. Thank you and hope to see you there! -Jess

The show itself is Saturday only. Many of the birds will be brought in Friday, and more will come in Saturday morning.

Hope to see you, too!

Ended up w/ 5 chicks for the broody mom (at least I hope still 5 this morning, one was iffy) She took to them well, looks like she is going to be a good mom. Will be interesting to see what these grow up to be since they aren't from my birds eggs.

Grandkids will help me take our out of the incubator today. I'll post some pictures after they're in the brooder.

How are the "Grey bars" (cuckoo marans) boys doing? Gary called them the grey bars, or dumb and dumber, (b/c they never learned to go up at night, but patiently waited for him to carry them in)

They're doing great. They have Cuckoo Marans pullets and one Barred Rock pullet between them. I will have to move the barred rock out in the spring, but for now they can cohabitate since they aren't laying yet.

Great to hear, I would tease Gary asking him who really is dumb and dumber, since they are being carried to the sleeping spot. lol
