When I want to save time on freezer camp, I skin the carcass instead of plucking. I can roast with bacon and butter on the bird. I leave the fat on the carcass as well for seasoning.
Kass - The babies look happy with their momma. Maybe we can figure out the crosses when they get a little bigger. My white egg layers are Cream Brabanter and White Leghorn. Looks like Black Copper Marans influence with the white egg babies. I do have a couple roos that are Black Copper Marnas X Black Java, so maybe they mingled with the Brabanter or White leghorn hens.
For chicks with feathered legs, theres got to be a connection to the Black Tailed Buff Marans and the BCM crosses, which both have feathered legs.
Chipmunk looking chicks are most likely creole Penedesenca. Those will be pure bred, since my Penedesenca have their own enclosure. They're among my best layers.
