***OKIES in the BYC III ***

seems so strange to see biddy momsx with babys in the middle dec!. the chicks are gorgeous Kass, hope you have good luck with them.

I'm hoping I don't seriously regret it, but they kept going broody. Right before they hatched we actually had 3 broodies, but 2 gave up right before hatch.

Kass, good looking chicks and a lovely hen. I really like a hen that takes her babies outdoors. Those chicks always have better immune systems and better free ranging ability.

My little Banty hens have their 6 chicks on the floor in the brooder room five black and one yellow.
Found a huge spat going on in the rooster pen this morning when I was opening up the coops. Two of the boys were both bloodied from comb injuries and they were still going at it. Grabbed up my big Wyandotte, rinsed his head in cold water to stop the bleeding and checked his eyes....all okay. Placed him in a pen with a hen and checked and cleaned the other rooster. He was okay too. He went back into the rooster pen. Peace in the chicken yard again.

There will be more peace in my yard tomorrow, and I bet the neighbors are going to throw a party, 6 boys are going to winter camp. 6 is a huge day for me, I've never done that many at once.

When I want to save time on freezer camp, I skin the carcass instead of plucking. I can roast with bacon and butter on the bird. I leave the fat on the carcass as well for seasoning.

NN pluck quicker then skinning, it takes less then 5 minutes to fully pluck one.

Kass - The babies look happy with their momma. Maybe we can figure out the crosses when they get a little bigger. My white egg layers are Cream Brabanter and White Leghorn. Looks like Black Copper Marans influence with the white egg babies. I do have a couple roos that are Black Copper Marnas X Black Java, so maybe they mingled with the Brabanter or White leghorn hens.

For chicks with feathered legs, theres got to be a connection to the Black Tailed Buff Marans and the BCM crosses, which both have feathered legs.

Chipmunk looking chicks are most likely creole Penedesenca. Those will be pure bred, since my Penedesenca have their own enclosure. They're among my best layers.

I just looked up brabanter chickens, and man are my fingers crossed!!!!!! Those are some pretty chickens!!!!

I found pics of baby cream brabanter chicks and the two black ones look just like the pics!!!
