I could use a little advice. It's coming time to try to rehome 2 brahma mix cockerels, as they are 2 months old and I'm starting to like them too much. I was going to put up some posts with pictures on a couple of Oklahoma Facebook poultry pages. Is there anything I can do to increase their chances of being rehomed, besides offering them for free?

Wow hi! There are a lot of post on the Okies page. I am new, just joined yesterday and received my first baby chick Monday as a surprise from hubby. Second one yesterday, since the first one was lonely. Checking out the fb page next lol. I live in the town of Sayre, American. First we're getting our egg layers, the meat rabbits and hopefully next spring our meat chickens. My eggers, I am only going to rotate 6 of them, are going to be my babies. I know this is bad but I really think the meat ones will be fine and my egg layers can just live long full lives as pets after they quit laying lol. Oh and nice to see a local (state) page. Nice meeting y'all and learning since I haven't been around chickens since I was a kid. Except in Hawaii but they are wild there lol. Sorry the idea of a wild chicken sounds funny yet they have them.

Ok recieved my batch of Jersey Giants! I now have 11 Jerseys and 5 unknown chicks. The 5 will be egg layers only, separate from my jerseys once they are old enough anyway. Laws are murky in my town. Why is back yard chickens such a big deal here in Oklahoma? Used to be lots of people had them. I don't get it. City dwellers moved in or what? I was a city dweller at one time but learned to accept. Sorry this is getting to be a sore subject with me and I am not sure why actually, lol.

I get that. I actually live in OKC, not on the outskirts, but 7 min. from downtown. We aren't the only ones to have chickens in our neighborhood, but I hear more noise made by dogs than anything. OKC laws are also murky, which I think is why we get away with it without paying for permits and such, that and inner city folk tend to mind their own business a little better in certain areas of town. Let's see how they hold up when my young cockerels start crowing. Lol!

Hopefully they will act like it is the sound of the country.. I enjoy it lol. Sorry about the rant someone told me I was going to have a long fight with the dog catcher as soon as they learned I had chickens. I also have exotic parrots that scream louder than a rooster crow but no one seems to mind that. And yes she does it in the morning when we get up at 5 am because she's mad she couldn't sleep past 10 am. She screams when it's bedtime, around 10pm and my other bird of course joins in. Lol. I am going to be happy to hear just a rooster lol.

We are supposed to have ducklings hatching today in all the rain. Maggie is dry in her habitat and sticking on her eggs. Will check again after the rain.

Awww baby ducks! We're not that far yet just doing my laying chickens, the few we picked up at atwoods, and my jersey giants. Out of the 12 I received I will keep one rooster and two or three hens, for eggs and breeding, and the rest will be meat chicks. Right now all my baby chicks are mixed together since they are all so young. But we are building a larger chicken run soon to separate them later. I want to primarily raise the jersey giants but my "mutt" chickens are adorable and will make good eggers I hope. They will be the pets as long as they lay. The breeders will too. I would like to have more farm critters but living in the city I maybe pushing my luck with the chickens lol.
