***OKIES in the BYC III ***

QUESTION. I have a hen that acts drunk/paralyzed. Seems to have happened instantly with no apparent injuries. Actually a good looking hen. After my wife told me about her, I pulled her out of the nest box and put her on the roost. She would have fell off as soon as I let go. So I put her back down in the floor of the tractor box. Amazed she was still alive today.

ANY body know what it might be.???

I am having a similar problem with one of mine though she is suddenly able walk straight after she lays an egg. I have only been able to find info saying it happens during molt, which doesn't apply, or that it is neurological. You might try posting in the emergencies thread and see if anyone comes up with anything. I'd like to know what's causing it if it is neurological but haven't found anything on that.

I was looking up Marek's disease and other issues right after asking my fellow Okies. I was upset when the wife told me about the hen and I could not remember exactly what it was or the symptoms of marek's. Still can't really.
I know I've read on here about the exact same condition. Even have had a similar problem years ago. She didn't make it another 36hrs but fortunately all others are in good health.

I'm sorry to hear that she didn't make it. I had one die recently for no reason we could find. I will look more into Marek's. My drunk-walker has no other symptoms and seems to be fine after she lays every day. I just need to do a lot more research.

It's amazing what you can forget when not staying up to date after say a decade or so. Worse yet I still call my self quite young and the person others call to fix their vet style problems.
Good thing their is a lot of research on here.

Hello and Long time no post my fellow Okies in the BYC.. Jeannie here, Formerly known back in the hay day as The Barn Swallow.. Been forever and a Minute since I was on here. Anyhoot life changed greatly since I last posted under the BarnSallow. So much so I had to give myself a new handle to be on here.. So I am known now as The Vintage FarmGirl78.

At the Time, the family and I were pretty active and involved with the good ole days of POOPS.. Have such happy memories of those get togethers!, Then our family moved via military to the North Country of NY.. and was making life there.. Fast Forward after 6 years, my then husband Jason retired from the service and we made our way back to OK, only to learn a few things about my marriage and.. needless to say.. Became a single momma, after 23 years of marriage..

Then 2 years ago, when not even looking or interested, God brought the most amazing MAN into me and my growing man childs lives, and lets just say.. Its been BEAUTIFUL.. . My eldest 2 children, as some may remember, Aleisha.. is now married to a soldier and living life still in the North Country of NY.. Austin just recently graduated from Elgin High School. 4 years ago Adopted 2 siblings from the Foster Care system. and now totting a 14month old and the one on the way. Doing babies all over again for this 43 year old, has been quite the journey, Tell God your "empty nest plans" and HE just laughs and laughs.

Anyhoot, I am not sure who is all active from back in my day..

AL, City Clucks, Poco Polo, Poultry & Bees? Anybody ?

Anywhere in central Oklahoma sell bantams that are coop ready? Just getting into backyard chickens and looking for three bantams but I don’t have the desire to raise them from chicks. We are moving to a new house in a month or two and I’m trying to plan ahead.
