***OKIES in the BYC III ***

This is my first ever season to watch it, and I find it totally amusing, I'll be watching it too. Even if Rob makes it to the end I can't imagine how he thinks he will be voted to get the money?

And Phillip is just one of the craziest people ever, and by crazy I mean crazy, not black!

Nice meeting both of you at POOPS. All the stories Teach tells, I was kinda scared of meeting Doc, but he is a very nice guy. Shows me who I should listen to, huh?

POOPS was amazing!!!!!
Thank you to everyone that made it happen. You all worked very hard!
We got home at dusk and I was in bed at 9:00. This time of the year I have no extra energy. Can we switch the next POOPS to fall? I'll be able to help alot more.

We so enjoyed meeting so many folks in person and talking with everyone . Wish there was more time to visit more.

I loved seeing all the pics, especially those of the happy children and dogs.

Grace'sDad please tell Grace how much I love the black cochins. They truely are beautiful and a real treasure for me.

Steve go to tractor supply and get some Tylan-50 injectable and a few small syringes and the shortest 22ga needles that they have. If they are bannys give 1/4cc twice daily and if they are large fowl give 1/2cc twice daily. Do a course of injections for 7 days, no matter if they look better after three or four days do the full 7.

Give the injection in the left side of the breast about halfway down. Insert the needle at a slight angle and pull back the plunger just a tad. If blood comes up in the syringe move to a different spot, if no blood slowly inject the meds. The injection can also be given in the thigh jut above the leg. Keep us posted on your progress and if you have any more questions just ask.

The Tylan injectable will be in the livestock section, not poultry. Chances are if they ask about what you are treating they will steer you towards the Duromycin or Teramycin and you need something stronger then those.

Thanks so much. Do I need to give injections to all 9 chickens. Seems like over half now are "coughing" I also have a smaller brooder inside the coop with 5 chicks and a gosling. Will they be allright since they are not in direct contact with the sick ones? Do you have any idea what disease they have?

Thanks again.

It was really great to meet you Robin!
I love my Guinea drawing. I have a great old vintage guilded frame that has been waiting a few years for something so nice to put in it.
Your cochin mama is so cute. I recently realized that in all the old images of hens nesting with chicks they are usually cochins. My girls have hatched some themselves but I have taken the chicks away since it was either in the middle of the snowstorm or they had hatched in a "nest box" with high sides or a coop with no ramp for them to get back up inside. I've got to fix that.
I'm glad you like the book. I have always been a mammal lover and had admired some birds (hawks, hummingbirds, ducks, songbirds), but the book opened my eyes to pigeons and crows. Of course my chickens have shown me how birds can have personalities!

Most of the time I would say only treat the sick ones but it seems that something is spreading rapidly so I would treat them all. As far as the brooder youngsters just be sure that you do not go from the older flock to the brooders. Remember that the only contact that they have with the flock is you and you can, without knowing it, spread disease from one pen to the next.

The problem with resp. infections in chickens is that the symptoms have very subtle differences. If they respond to the Tylan that will help to eliminate a couple of diseases and how they respond after the course of Tylan will determine even more.
