***OKIES in the BYC III ***

Hiya Everyone, After POOPS I dropped in at Blanchard and bought 8 nice BO hens, I was putting them in a pen and one of the hens has a full grown spur on one leg and nothing on the other, I thought when I felt it that maybe it was a roo but I don't think it is,

Was wondering if thats something normal or uncommon and if anyone has an idea what that might indicate. I've never seen a hen with spurs that I can remember and her having just one I'm guessing is fluke.

Could this be something genetic and if so should I maybe not set her eggs?

On another note, I lost some chickens over the winter to some unknown preditor I would find one or two just laying dead in the pen missing feathers but not eaten on at all so didn't know what had killed them, the first one I found was dead and one of the geese they shared a pen with was covered in blood but I couldn't find an injury on it anywhere,

so I was adding my new hens to that same pen and the geese didn't like it at all so decided to set up another area for them instead,

I had put 2 hens in already and went to the house for a few minutes, when I got back the geese had almost killed one of the hens, she was so beaten up and bloody I thought she was dead,

I picked her up and she was still breathing so am taking care of her I think she might survive but it's still not for sure.

I've never seen anything like how bad she was beaten up and just floored at how quick the geese did that to her I know they can and do bite but never suspected them while trying to figure out what kind of preditor I had coming into the pen killing and not eating any of the dead chickens,

But now I do know and won't make that mistake again, the geese get to live without sharing their pens from now on LOL

Vern and I saw them too! I am always impressed with draft animals...which is why I have a 2000 pound Percheron mare LOL! I just can't imagine how much $$$ it must cost to keep that many belgian draft mules, have the semi, wagon and harnesses for them all...I need to win the lotto...

Just think if you bred your draft mare to a nice mammoth jack how nice of mule u would have

Yea some can live up to 13. its rare but can happen if you pamper them and do certain things

I would still probably get a wolfhound pup if I found a good one, we had a boxer live to be 12 and that is old for a boxer, their hearts normally go out long before then...

I know ive been looking for a breeder or a place to get one in oklahoma for about 5 years now. i have found them outside of the state but they are 1500 and a long drive. and to get there and find out that they are in a bad environment and could have issues is not worth it.

I just knew you were going to say the crowing was coming from our van!!!

Your van was strangely silent - and very clean on the outside...I'd like to be a fly on the wall at the rental place after you returned it!
