***OKIES in the BYC III ***

Know a guy over on 51 hiway at Pharoh's Gardens that raises all kinds of water plants in wading pools so I think it would work great! I built an experimental water garden out of the 5 foot wading pools and it worked great except the sun killed the plastic with UV rays and it fell apart by the end of the season, so just added a new pool each year untill I got tired of mesing with it. If I would have put a watergarden liner in it I am sure it would have lasted better!!! Just wwent cheap! You may be able to advertise on Craigs list and find an old leaking swimming pool to cut up for a liner!!! Lynn

I had thought about that but wondered if the water was to shallow and would heat to quickly in our Okie summer inferno and kill the plants.

When I was researching which kind of insects to raise for the girls I read about those, and several other multi step insects. Meal worms or super worms either would be great for those not liking the "ick" factor of roaches, but nothing is more simple then the roaches.

Kassandra as far as the water getting too hot, you cold put it in a location that get some shade from noon on. When the plants tart growing they will cover the pool and keep it cool. Warning if you are thinking of putting Kio or Goldfish in there! They will eat the plants!!!! LOL Lynn

greybear, awesome to know even if it only lasted for this season as an experiment it would only be about $15 for the pool, work all the bugs out and make more of a permanent investment later (next year)

Had given some thought to raising Crickets in an old deep freeze myself, as they are easy to raise in paper egg cartons and cold mount a screen on top for air circulation and access. Lord know I have a FEW old freezers around here. Could do the same for Meal worms too. Sorry but Roaches make my skin crawl and I don't think I could propigate them on purpose!!!! Lynn

I picked up from craigslist a 10 wide 2 foot deep fiberglass satalite dish and plan on making a water pond out of it, I was telling a friend from work about it and he says he has another one just like it I can get, those would be perfect for growing duckweed in and a lot of it

Thats a really smart idea !
