***OKIES in the BYC III ***

Hey all. It's been a long week. I've got Lauren's birthday party tomorrow. We're having it at the house, so we've been cleaning inside and out. I've spent my days off getting the cake together.

I set over a hundred eggs last weekend. They should hatch about the same time as the turkeys that I got from Carla at POOPS. I ended up tossing 14/44 turkey eggs last weekend. Most of them were clear and a few were early quitters.

Well it's about time to start my physical therapy, so I gotta go.

Guns. My lab is terrified of them, sight or sound.

Because she was shot once, I guess. Before I made my place escape proof for dogs she would get out on occasion and one my dear neighbors (still don't know which one) shot her.

Anyway, any time she sees me walking with a gun she freaks out. My Pyrs couldn't care less.

My 16 yo Rottie is like that if she sees me or anyone else with a gun in thier hand she goes and hides LOL My big red dog wasn't afraid of gunshots or thunder till she saw how much attention Dutchess gets during bad storms so now she acts just as afraid but tries to be first to get comforted if there is any loud noise that she can use as an excuse LOL

After picking Buddy up from the vet today, I now know how badly he needed us. He had to be shaved because his coat was in such bad shape and he had two OPEN BULLET WOUNDS. She'd told us he'd been shot, but I thought it was a while back because his hair has grown out quite a bit, and I didn't expect open wounds. He also had a lot of ticks and is badly under weight. I suspected that because I could feel prominant hip bones and backbone under all that thick coat. He wasn't in good enough shape to get all of his shots, but will get the rest next week. He's on antibiotics, both topical and oral for five days for the wounds. I learned from his former owner that he's a "picky eater" and was fed only table scraps. He's eaten Purina One Puppy food very well since he's been here. Fortunately, he doesn't have heartworms, tick borne diseases, or worms. He'll start Advantage Multi, which is for heartworms and fleas, tomorrow, as well as a Preventic tick collar.

They really like him at the vet's office; he's a very sweet, well-behaved dog. He has taken well to both of us, as well as Shiloh. He met a cat at the vet's, and calmly walked up to it and touched noses.

We have to keep him confined for awhile (he got out of our yard yesterday morning and went" home"--two blocks away), as he MUST NOT be allowed to go "home" again. She has to move out Tuesday, but it'll take him awhile to know this is home.

Sounds like Buddy is exceptionally lucky to have found your home.

Most of us would totally understand the reason for killing a spouse who purchased $800 show goats.

Teach and NNbreeder, I thought about the two of you last night as I cut a dead rat snake out of the bird netting that covers the Muskovy pen. That stuff was very effective for capturing the snake (as NNbreeder had previously suggested it would be) and then the muscoveys nipped it to death through the netting. Those rat snakes stink!

How long did you leave it there?

I can just imagine P&B out checking the critters late at night and coming nose to nose with that snake as it hung there.

I been in the barn all day....

Been trying to figure out where to put all 69 chickens that I aquired yesterday...

I got OEG bantams, silverlace wyandottes, cochins, egyptain famois, black jersey giants, barred rocks, too many to count... I am sure some will be at the sale...

Tooooo tired to do another thing, so I am going to take kiddos and go to El Charros for a little bit of mexican cuisine....
