Busy day today. Helped hubby feed cows on pastures away from home and spent hours in the barn working on redoing the growout pens to include the two new trios from Carl and Stephanie. Decided to doubledeck the youngest - those under 4 weeks in one pen up high and those over 4 weeks on the bottom inside the big growout pen. Moved the last of the biggest 3 -4 month olds into the big henhouse with their own feed and water. Got 8 eggs today...they flock is beginning to lay again.
Picked out which big birds to butcher....some older RIR and australorp hens..
Picked out the 3 - 4 month olds I will rehome (3 Chantecler pullets, the 3 red spangled Hamburgs, a red polish roo, a red spangled polish roo, some small sized Australorp pullets). All these are Ideal hatchery purchases from Atwoods...they look more like bantom than large fowl for their age. Studley Do Right can go to a new home....since I have Wyandotte roos and an Australorp roo growing up soon. I've posted pic earlier, but if anyone is interested...send me a pm and I'll send more recent pictures.
Hubby and I pulled the onions today to finish drying...will plant fall potatoes where that bed is and when the spring potatoes come out in a few weeks will plant Okra. Did you know chickens love johnson grass...pulled some out by the pasture fence and they devoured it.
We didn't come in till 9 pm and both of us are bushed.
Oh and the pigeon visitor took a bath in borax tonight in the hot tub room. Had to close it in there to let it out of the cage....then I had to mop the floor....hopefully the ivermectin and the borax bath got rid of those horrible feather mites...I feel like my skin is still crawling. Haven't heard anything from the Amer racing pigeon Union from Ada yet....Greybear...you spoke first....
