***OKIES in the BYC III ***

Please describe how the joint is affected. If it is a slipped Achilles tendon because of an accident, it can be repaired easily. If it is congenital and one of hte other problems, chances are slim. With a slipped Achilles tendon, the chick will hold the leg almost normally except it won't put its foot down. If that's what it is doing, I can tell you what to try.

Any suggestions would be appreciated. The chick came out of the shell this way....probably cramped in there. The little leg is moveable yet seems a little atrophied. the toes are flexible but are fixed in a slightly curled position. The chick tries to walk on it. I took the boot off so I can do therapy on the foot and leg...the bicycle motion...and gently massage the toes open and closed. I've dealt with spraddle leg and curled toes with the baby lovebirds before and they are way smaller than this baby. Sure is a spunky little thing all fluffy and loud. It's yellow with dark feathers on the sings and two little black specks on it's face...have no idea what it is...

If I don't weed the big garden, it isn't grass that is growing around the plants. I think however that if it is tomatoes I want and they can grow in grass, I would be better off digging a hole in untilled soil, so the grass keeps out the taller and more invasive weeds.

According to my FIL the grass keeps the hot sun off the tomatoes during the worst of our really hot summer, cooling and protecting them. I plant my tomatoes deep so the tomato root system is deeper the the grass root system, should be no competition there. If it really does work I will probably modify it next year and grow a useful grass like plant say millet, or sourgum, or quinoa.

Winter rye is a good cover crop as is buckwheat. The chickens like both.

So glad to hear that. With all the antibiotics, the natural bacteria in his stomach and intestines will be affected. Might get him some pro-biotics at the pharmacy to help..or a really good yogurt...like Mountain View.

Okay. Heard from the pigeon's owner this morning. The bird got away about a week ago from the pen in Ada. He is going to come get the bird tomorrow or Thursday. Mr. Reddick was really glad to hear the bird is okay....apparently they can be high dollar.

Yes those are good for cool weather, I was talking about co-planting during the growing time. I am definately going to plant an off season cover crop both for the girls to eat and to help keep the weeds and grass at bay.

I'm still pulling rye although it is going to seed now. Buckwheat will grow and bloom late into summer if seeded in early spring.

Very Nice garden Kassundra...

I am trying to not to be envious...lol

Speaking of gardens the kids and I are making that our project today! Deweeding and laying down the mulch (hay from the coop) on top of the newspaper.. I prefer grass clippings but because our riding lawn mower is not with mulching blades... I am sticking with the hay this year.. so far so good...

We have all the babies out of the Nursery today and enjoying the yard... they are so crazy happy they have no idea what to do except follow MIA (our chinese goose) and Rosanne around... lol Which is making Rosanne a lil bit more happier than she had been these past weeks or so.

Our mallard female is broody and we are trying to locate the nest just so we can keep tabs on her and the babies but she blends in to everything its hard to spot her...lol

So much to do and looking forward to Friday to get a idea as to what route we are going to take with this place... Realtor is set to come out on Friday at 5:30...

Darling Daughter just made us all lunch so I best be going...

Howdy all, been offline over the holiday wkend. My ex BF called & decided to come and tar the coop roof since it had leaks, bless his lil gizzard.

Then he decided to till up some garden space for me

and then he even went so far as to say he thought he'd build me a big raised bed!

Wow, ignoring him for months sure brought about some nice changes in him. LOL I did make it clear I won't be his girlfriend again so we got that settled. I'm not sure when I'll get the raised bed but my dad and I had talked about me needing them so I can still garden a little bit. Just can't bend or get down enough to do the reg. gardening. The chicky girls are on a laying spree and the black snakes are driving me nuts....2nd one in a week! Thanks to the ex being here at the right time, he was able to kill the 2nd one and get rid of it before he left. I'm going to fill plastic easter eggs with dirt and plant them around the inside and outside of the coop to help keep the snakes busy. Haven't had a chance to see how everyone spent their holiday but will catch up soon. Have fun everyone
