Men and their tales:
Yesterday my hubby comes running in the house for a gun. "There's a big black snake in the garden!" I spend 30 minutes with him hunting the snake that is 5 feet long and inches in diameter. He said he had to come get the gun because he couldn't find any tools in the garden (Yep, the missus likes to keep her tools nice and clean and puts them up every time she uses them) He thinks he sees it and takes a clean shot with the shotgun ( a little over-kill in my mind but hey..he hates snakes). We go to look at the damage and it's a piece of 8 track tape dropped by the tornado that came thru last week. It's dead.
He tells the neighbor who drops by about the snake and now it's a little bigger and badder than before.
This morning, he tells his brother about the snake...another snake hate..r and the two of them decide to look for it later in the day.
When they go look at some hay to buy, I took some cabbage leaves and bolted spinach to the hens and look for eggs. Lo and behold there is a big black snake in the nest box that has swallowed one of my ceramic eggs put there to entice hens to lay. I grab a shovel and pin it's head to the wall and then drag it out of the box and into the barn where I finish the deed and then have to gut it to retreive the ceramic egg. The snake sets off the dogs who bark and growl as they were taught so Momma doesn't have to worry about snakes when she is out. It measures 4 1/2 feet long and has a diameter of 1 1/2 inches. I toss the snake out in the drive so hubby will see it when he pulls in the drive (My attempt at bragging rights)
They look at the snake and "No, that's not the one I saw yesterday." The boys go to the garden to look for the snake, so I tag along. Now the snake is described as 6 feet long and 3 inches in diameter...as big as that limb over there."
I can't resist teasing him that his story is like a fish tale.
He retorts "Oh yes, It has to weigh 1000 pounds by now"
We're still on the look-out for the BIG one that got away...with the minnow trap baited with a ceramic egg.
