Wouldn't rule those out either...here's a pic for ya http://osu.altus.ok.us/brown_wheat_mite.htm

to say by my picture I wouldn't rule out but by NN's I would. Also don't think chiggers because those are some bites I would never forget!

Here is an idea, knock a bunch of those little fellas into a plastic bag and take them to your extension office for identification. After all you pay their salary.

thanks joe, but I think that was a mistake, I don't have that award, or it might be lost in mail

Congratulations!

Worst infestation of chiggers I ever got was yearly while picking Sand Plums at Grandpa's farm. But mom's jelly more then made up for all of the itching.

Really? Good idea...since the spraying doesn't seem to be working, I think I may do that! Anyone know if the Cleveland county extension is the office off Robinson? Know I saw a sign somewhere down there.

I saw a recipe today for Caramel Apple Jelly... I wonder if that's the same thing? I saved the site... it looked and sounded SO good!

I have to ask even though I know I won't do it....uh...want to share the site? And does it have the word "easy" attached to the name?

I don't mind at all sharing CayuseRanch! It's from Allrecipes.com.. and it's for "Caramel Apple Jam" not jelly. I REALLY like jam better myself!

http://allrecipes.com/Recipe/Caramel-Apple-Jam/Detail.aspx

Caramel Apple Jam

Ingredients

6 cups diced peeled apples (1/8 inch cubes)
1/2 cup water
1/2 teaspoon butter
1 (1.75 ounce) package powdered fruit pectin
3 cups sugar
2 cups packed brown sugar
1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg

Directions

In a large kettle, combine the apples, water and butter. Cook and stir over low heat until apples are soft. Stir in pectin and bring to a rolling boil, stirring constantly. Add the sugars, cinnamon and nutmeg and return to a rolling boil. Boil for 1 minute, stirring constantly.
Remove from the heat and skim off any foam. Ladle hot jam into hot sterilized jars, leaving 1/4-in. headspace. Adjust caps. Process for 10 minutes in a boiling-water bath.

They always look so easy lol. And with all that sugar, has to be good. Wonder...what is "process for 10 min in ..." Do they mean you set the jars in boiling water for 10 min? lol obviously didn't watch my mom making any of that jelly

I can testify to the delicious fantasticness of Greybear's Candy Apple Jelly - I have barely a tad left and am planning to have it on a bit of toast. It is wonderful!
