Cayuse, you can buy a powder call Vi-tal at any feed store, 4 bucks for a small bag, but it is like 1 tsp per gallon of water...that is the stuff they are talking about for you rbirds, be a lot cheaper than using gatorade

For those of you that live near choctaw the Farmers Market will be opening this saturday @ 8am. I will be there with Some Asparagus, Carrots, Radishes, Spinach, Chard, New Potatoes, eggs and frozen whole chickens that I have raised and processed myself.

The farmer's market in Choctaw is South of NE 23rd Street in the Choctaw Creek Park, 2001 N. Harper St., Choctaw. There used to be a sign on NE 23rd that pointed to the market that was somewhat obscure, but hopefully the sign has been replaced by a more visible sign.​

In a pinch, such as with a sick or injured bird, you can use Gatorade or Powerade but cut it 50/50 with water to dilute the sugar and salt content. Pedialite can also be used and I cut it 50/50 also, manly to just stay in the habit of diluting it.

You can't tell by the photo, but the water needs to be about a half inch over the top of the jars...

And as the jars cool you will hear that wonderful pop of the jars sealing. Unsealed jars are for immediate consumption, I always stayed close to make sure all of mom's jars sealed. LOL


Forgot to add. If you unscrew the ring and stick the point of a knife under the lid they won't seal.

Most of mom's jellies got a wax seal, after tipping the wax they didn't last long.
