A few garden photos:

Love to see flowers drawing pollinators in the garden

The growout pen next to the hen run has been covered with shade cloth and panels lean on the south side to keep the hot afternoon sun off Burlap bags hang on the west side too. The bags and pallets are wet down with a hose and the air blowing thru is then much cooler.

That would be us. I use a 10% bleach solution to both sanitize the eggs before setting, use water around the 100 deg F range, dip the eggs and then let air dry and don't rinse.

We use 1 tablespoon per gallon of water. We found out about this the first time we went through NPIP classes way back when.

What was the reason they gave for doing it?

I miss lots of people on here. HennyPenny, CountyRoad, Stimp, Quency, Doc (although he's coming back), Matt (the guy with the fantastic telescopic photos). etc.

But, life happens, people get busy, what have you. Time moves on, and people with it.

I can't be missing the company of kids yet!!!! I am looking forward to seeing my 3 nephews in a couple of weeks.
Kids like Jaxon that appreciate birds are very special to me, they seem have a kind of prenatural wisdom.

We have Okie red clay on top of rock. So the ground was leveled, sod removed over 2/3 of the garden space. Then topsoil (gumbo and sandy loam) from another part of the property was brought in and leveled on top of the clay. The beds were positioned and the first year, we had the garden there were no boxes. I simply hilled the beds in place. Then that fall we built the boxes and back filled with a mixture of good topsoil and aged compost. The grass has grown back better than before...due to topsoil and watering the garden. Each year the soil in the boxes is supplemented by aged compost, chicken litter (we deep litter with leaves). The garden is 14 years old. The boxes are 4 x 16 treated 2x12 lumber. We used electrical angle for the corners and each corner has 4 lag bolts.

We replaced the solid doors on the coop w/ "screened" doors w/ 2 layers of hardware cloth. Then Gary made small shelves on the outside of the doors and screwed box fans to the doors, hopefully that will keep the girls a little cooler. We can also hang frozen 2 ltr bottles in front of the fans and blow cooled air on them.
