Thanks for posting the pigeon swap info, Michael. I'll have to shift things around to be able to make it. Everyone thinks their plans trump my pigeons and chickens. They're mistaken!

Got stung by a scorpion last night on the inside if my thigh. It was exquisite. I musta thought my girlfriend was pinching me, cause I sat up screaming out of a dead sleep, grabbed a pillow and started hitting her with it, screaming "Stop it! Stop it..." And I'm sure I cursed a few times too. I don't know how the nasty little thing got in my house (the scorpion), but tonite ill be checking my sheets good before getting in bed.

Hi Michiele, I say 4 is not nearly enough. I speak from experience since I just started with 2. Each bird does not always lay every day and sometimes not at all for a bit when it's very, very hot or freezing cold. You need more like 8 or so. I now have 22 chickens and 17 of those are adults. I'm getting avg. 11-13 eggs daily but some hot days a bit less. so you should let all these fine folks help you grow your flock very soon.

I went from a dog kennel to a small pen and now a big pen, bigger yard and 9' x 9' ft. coop. I might have to find out who that claremore couple is and get another coop.

Remember.....you'll need eggs for breakfast, for pancakes, cornbreads, cakes, brownies, dressings and all kinds of foods so don't short yourself on chickens!

Plus a dozen eggs makes a real cool gift - really impresses the city folks; much more interesting than a bottle of wine.

Michael glad to see your internet is up and running again. Hope it lasts this time. Also thanks for the heads up on the pigeon swap. If I am free that weekend I will try to be there.
Cameron my teen age son got bit by one of those dang things 3 times the other day before he figured what was going on. Nasty littl buggers.
Im having naked neck gang wars in my yard now. First ones I got were black with 5 toes. Last ones were red with 4 toes. They hang in their own little gangs and when they accidently get in the same area they try to run the other ones out. They are just too funny. I am thinking about trying to put little blue and red bandanas on them. One thing that strikes me odd as when they move they move as a group most of the time. The black ones more so than the reds. You never see one of them by themselves. The red ones will branch off from each other once in awhile.

My pen of 18 partridge and Mille fleur Cochins are 6 to 9 weeks old and they stay in the groups they were hatched in. They have been in there more than 3 weeks and the groups haven't broken up much but the 4 partridges and starting to leave their Mille Fleur "brothers and sisiters" and to join the other 6 Partridges that are 2 weeks older. I love sitting in the middle of the pen and just watching them do what they do.​

Aw, yes, nothing better'n a little chicken TV. I have two "teams" of guineas. A few weeks ago, we got down to
a roo and a hen on one team, and a single hen on the other team. I kept waiting for the single hen to convert
over to the other "team" of guineas, but instead, she adopted a single Black Copper marans rooster that was
running with a pack of fourteen other roosters. She took up with him, and now i'm back to two teams. It just
fascinates me to see the two of them, the BCM roo and the guinea hen out behaving just like guineas do.
Ya never know what they'll come up with next.
Not to worry, though, I've got plenty of young ones up and coming in the barn.

Unfortunately, we don't have much information on our auction links regarding the Afton swap/auction. Perhaps someone who has been there can provide more details

It looks like the Afton poultry swap is on the 3rd Saturday and Sunday of the month - so it will be July 16 - 17

We have used band-aids & they worked great for the legs. I cut the band-aid in half long ways. Taped their legs together leaving a normal amount of space no extra. Kinda like handcuffs but for chick legs. After 2 days they were all better. It is defiantly a two person job but works great!
