The rooster I saw looked like a HUGE golden maran - with gold and black crele style hackle and saddle feathers.

Pretty Barnyard Chickens. Cockers call them "dunghills"

There was no specific breed, which is why they have no uniformity in shape, just feather type.

I've read a lot of pit game, barred rocks, probably even china game and phoenix were used.

Difantly say the phoenix was used.

--I can relate to that --I'm on a fixed income got to have my cool air on the days we've been having lately hope we get a break soon.

I bought Energy Star window air conditioners and they REALLY save on the bill if you run them on the economy feature, which just means that when the compressor kicks off, so does the fan. My elec. bill that just came was under $50 total. My pymt. was only $47 since I got on PSO's Avg. Monthly Pymt. plan. they just average out your bills through the year so you don't pay so much in the summer or winter. I use wood heat so don't have over $35 elec. bill in the wintertime. I have Energy Star everything, even light bulbs and appliances. Well worth it I think. I just bought some Platinum window film at Lowe's and my dad installed it in the south facing windows. Made a huge difference in keeping out sun and heat! It blocks about 70% of the heat. I LOVE it!

Hot, hot, hot today. Pray for snow....or hurricanes as our weatherman says. A hurricane will cool us down if it comes in the Gulf near here.
Happy 4th of July weekend. Don't swim in Grand Lake, it's poisoned with blue green algae. Deadly to dogs and people but they're letting people go in if they choose rather than closing the infected areas. I see many lawsuits coming from that bad decision. they should close the beaches.

A huge trend in Hair stlyes now is to put long saddle or hackle feathers in your hair. - not alot, (I just got a visual of a woman looking something like a polish!) just one or two. I have seen both Barred Rock and Creel in women's hair. Stylists put them in like hair extensions, hiding the quill near the scalp.
My hairstylist told me her friend's father has a farm in the Blanchard area and came to her friend one day with a handfull of feathers. He had heard of the trend. When she explained to him, "Not that kind of feathers", he answered "Poor chickens".

I just got my hair highlighted last week and saw the new feather hair adornments. they cost $50 at the salon I went to. Ouch. They even had peacock feathers. They have a little clamp that holds to your hair and as your hair grows you just unclamp and move the clamp back up near the root. the girls at the salon had as many as 3 of the skinny feathers in their hair and my stylist had one normal one. they look nice.

108 here and I just wet down the pens and shade cloths and filled all the waterers with cold water and ice again as well as some pallets leaning against the pens.
Saw a lizard running across the gravel drive with a stick in his mouth....He stopped mid way across the drive, stuck that stick in the ground and climbed up to cool his feet! Now that's HOT!
