Not yet.... barely wet the ground did cool off a bit that's a blessing. Still a chance something good could happen like fill my rain barrels. This little ghost town I live in has been having water problems for going on two weeks the water district has let them down. FEMA is giving out bottled water. I guess I need to give some classes on how to get by without turning on a faucett.

Do you have any good plans for rain barrels that you would like to share? CityClucks shared some plans last year, but I didn't save them anywhere I could easily reference them. Yes, some classes on how to get by without turning on a faucet may be very timely. I recall when we used our dish water to water the flower beds.

that's one,,. I use the guttering off my tin roof and pickle barrels for storage and a water trough to dip out of to water my critters keep gold fish in the open ones and lids on the barrels for misquito control. I live alone so it doesn;t take alot of water to take care of running the household washing dishes, clothes and myself and flushing the toilet some folks would think too much work involved and since I have back issues thank goodness for the help of my neighbor.I use an old maytag washer works for me.I;m on a fixed income so have to save everywhere I can.

Hope the rain comes your way. There was a good rain here, thankfully.

The wind blew open one of the gates and two hens seized the opportunity to escape. I searched everywhere I could, then finally found them in the backyard of a vacant house nearby. It took me over an hour to wrestle them around and get them back home. Those long handled fishing nets sure come in handy. Now I'm covered in mud and mosquito bites, the two captured escapees are in time out, and I'm whooped. So, so grateful for the rain and cooler temps though.

We are sticking it out. I started to unload 50 or so but think I would be more like giving them away. Same with goats.

We are digging in for the duration of the war.

Years past Meeker was the horse sale to attend but I would bet those are headed to Mountain View and then off to Mexico. There isn't a real horse market anymore with the economy and the drought. Horses have gone as low as $25 at Jones and we are seeing more and more free horses on Craig's List and most at auction are thin.

We have been feeding a lot of grain and hay ourselves and I am getting a truck ready to go to Ks. after hay if need be. Hopefully our hay guy will get another cutting this year and we can squeak by. His fields are way east of Guthrie so they have had good rains this year. Last year they had a bearing go out on a baler and the field went whoosh!! Didn't even get one bale out of the chamber.

They just brought in 6 round bales to feed them...the horses were eatting what weeds were there. Hubby said the same thing about Mexico. Some are geldings, some are mares with foals, some are thin and some nice looking.

Goofy birds. They're used to free ranging and love to dig around in leaves, but I never saw them roosting in trees. They would roost in odd places though, rather than the hen house. Most of the time I found them roosting on a ledge next to the chimney of the house, but sometimes on the lawn furniture on the back patio. They must have like the trees at your place.

Until rural water came to the Loyal area back in the mid 60s grandpa's place had a big cistern that supplied the farm and that thing was huge. It was hand dug back in '89 after the run.

Grandpa even told me how to do it and believe it or not the top is done first. It is then lifted off with horses and an "A" frame and set to the side. then the center is dug out and the walls bricked up and covered with concrete and the floor is poured. Of course the piping is added as the walls go in. Set the top back on cover with dirt connect the piping and there you have it.

Back then the only filtration was screens over the down spouts of the house. I used to drink out of the spout down at the windmill!!
