Mine have a little bit of emotional attatchment, they are from my Gma's original bush, I can replant forsythia, but it won't be the same.

I know what you mean about the sentimentality. My Mom died in late May, and now every flower I have that I got from her has taken on extreme importance to me. I have her holly hocks, old fashioned petunias, old type purple flox, and a few others. I also have some peonies from my Grandma West who lived out in Oklahoma. I dug them up about ten years ago, and have kept them this long. When it comes to watering, my flowers get watered before the veggie garden. DH does not understand that, but it's the sentamentality of it. I can always plant more cucumbers, but not more of my Grandma's and Mom's flowers.

You may have to change the name to the BROWN AND CRUNCHY COUNTRY SWAP MEET

Sjarvis00 good to hear from you. Hope you have had a good hatching season. Mine started out good but when the heat hit I had a lot of problems keeping them alive. I think it was more the humidty than the heat. The climate here is just not good for baby chicks. Its either hot and damp or cold and damp.We had a shower last might and it raised the humidity level way up but I still had to water some of my flowers because the ground was so dry!

(Dang, I'm long-winded!)
I got some diamataceous earth at Farmer's Grain in Edmond (thanks janbcoo1!). This stuff is like flour, I thought it would be like potting soil for some reason. It's organic food grade but on the label it says "hazardous to people and pets". What's up with that?
I've got a mini horse, mini donkey and 5 Barbado sheep, dogs, the chickens, house cats, you name it. What are the different ways you all use this stuff? I was reading you can put it in all these different animal's daily feed? That humans can take it? What about you all? Let me hear some great ways to use it.
Also-how much for the chickens? In their feed? Their coop? Where? I sprinkled about 1/4 cup into their "mud pool" yesterday (they love their mud pool!) but I don't know if that was enough or too much? Or if it has to be dry in order to be of any use? I'm still reading tons about it. But I've found this board is a wealth of information. Honestly, I trust you all very much and would like to hear your opinions on it. Thanks for anything you can tell me

PS I love my time sitting down to this board and catching up every day. I'm try to remember everyone's name and where they live. This is so cool knowing all of you are right here in Oklahoma!

Kassaundra, that's a great idea to carry a camera with you everywhere you go! I see so many cool looking things and you know, it never occurred to me to carry my camera. I'm going to start doing that. Those longhorn are beautiful!

That's so touching. I know exactly what you mean although I don't have the closeness with my mom like you obviously did. What you're doing is the perfect way to keep a tangible memory of them alive. Something to see and touch and look at every single day that gives you a small bit of peace. I bet your mom is up there blessing all those plants and helping them grow.

On a side note:
My 8 baby Cochin hatchlings from my very 1st incubation attempt are 5 days old and soooo very precious :-o They just amaze me, I wanted this breed more than any breed ever. Their incubator was right next to me the entire 3 wks. Those little babies recognized my voice from the second they hatched! Is that possible?? They kept trying to crane their tiny weak necks to where my voice was above them. I put my hand in their box and they run to me, they're not scared a single bit. I got my 14 Silkies (3 wks old now) from Ideal Hatchery and they were never calm and tame like my Cochins. Maybe it's just the breed difference? But I'd like to believe it has something to do with the Cochin babies forming in their little shells right by me during incubation. My 3 Royal Palm turkeys (2 1/2 wks old now) and my 8 Cochin babies are definintely my favorites. I don't know why I favor them so much. I look at them and hold them and them and they're just so gentle and precious. We're in the process of building the turkeys a 15' x 35' run with a Turkey house in it 20' outside the back door between the house and the the 30' RV which is my 'room' for all my computer stuff and paperwork, etc. They'll get tons of attention. The lady who sold me the Turkeys is probably on this board, she's in Norman. If you're here-I LOVE these guys! Thank you so very much. My turkey babies & the Marans & the Quail are all doing wonderful!
Also-we'll be at the Green Co Swap Meet. I posted in the thread that we'll be there and for BanjoJoe to put me on his list to buy hatching eggs for the "naked chicken". I would dearly love to have at *least 1 of those guys. We're going to just make a whole day of it since it's a 6 hr round trip. Whenever the eggs would come available I'll make the drive to go get them and maybe meet you somewhere and buy you lunch

so they don't have to be mailed. I don't want to risk mailing them.
Everyone have a great day!

wayne,
It has been a rough year hatching for everyone I know. as normal our incubators are still running I think we are going on 3 years without shutting them down. I don't know that we will ever shut them down at this rate.

[BO GARRETT] Its looking more like i wont get to go to Indy.this time, sure hate to miss it.If you go back to BOB EVANS RESTRUANT you probably better take your own lunch huh.Had a great time there.I really appreciate your offer to do that for me if your sure it wouldnt be to much trouble . I certainly would pleased with your judgement on picking a good trio.Maybe mr Bell or some of the az. breeders will be there. If you go to newcastle next month let me know, ill try to be there. Give Cassy and Taylor a hug for me.THANKS

I found the old box of toys we used to put out when the grand kids came over. This particular box was unopened after our move, three years ago, so that's how long it's been since I've thought about these. It’s amazing how one can find “signs” in ordinary objects. What do you think? Was I destined to become a farmer?
