So sorry. We often spend more time with our pets than family and friends. They are such a source of companionship and (usually) uncontidional love. It really affects our daily lives when we loose them.

Three of my pens are on cement (with straw bedding) I have a "chicken bath tub" in each. Each is a galvanized tub that is about 15"x24" and 6" or 8" tall. I put dirt and sand and DE and grit in them. The birds love their bath time in then. When ever I freshen up the mix they crowd in the tub. It is funny to see the mass of feathers stuffed in them. I also periodically put some poultry dust in them and that is a good way to double up on the parasite protection. I also put some ashes from our fire pit when I can. Chickens love that alot.
I have put DE around my strawberries to fight pill bugs (rolly pollys) but I heard that it can tear up dog's and cat's paw pads. Anybody heard that?

Wonderful news!

Rural fire departments are awesome. One of the hose operators owns the roofing company that roofed our house. He's a volunteer fireman. Three counties collaborated to put out the blaze: Haskell, Boynton, and Muskogee. One of our trees did get run over. I'm more concerned for the firetruck than I am for the tree. Our trees are flagged to make them more visible, and they are staked with T-posts. One post is bent at the ground, so I hope the undercarriage of whatever hit it survived.
