***OKIES in the BYC III ***

NN would Ivermectin work on guniea pigs? Have you ever had to worm the rats? I have at least one piggy that I think might be wormy, and since they are on the ground a lot they proably all could use it.

I'd have Spangled Hatch if they would quit eating the eggs. I have a beautiful spangled cock & the hen is spangled wheaten.

I have a pair of young phoenix that kept eating their eggs. I started feeding them boiled eggs, and they stopped. I dunno if
they were craving eggs, or it was just incidental to the time I started feeding boiled eggs, but they stopped.

Just got in from taking the "girls" their cold plate of fruit :) It sounds like you keep chickens for the same reason I do-for the sheer peace of mind that goes along with it.

Recently got a 4 week old Cochin roo from the Jarvis. One little boy to go with the two Blue Cochin that are older. His little pen was next to theirs in the hot tub room and he would pace back and forth for hours. He would sleep eat and drink, but he wanted company. When I tried putting him in with the girls, they bullied him so back to his cage he went. Then I woke up last night with the bright idea of putting the little guy in with Angel, the blind hen. Her cage is also next to the Cochin girls. She can't see him so she wouldn't peck on him....well, Angel has never been broody, never raised chicks, but this girl is clucking and calling the baby to the food and water cups when she eats. She dips her beak into water and then back to the food and he eats the crumbles off her beak and cheeps back to her. He's laid out on the floor of the cage beside her tonight...raised his head to look at me and nodded right back off. It's a match made in Heaven. Mother Nature is great.

Just what we expected! Dr. Les wasn't strictly following the medical doctor's orders.

Well actually I did and I got bored out of my mind and frustrated because there were so many things that needed done that I could not do. On my first out patient visit I asked about my restrictions and the doctor proclaimed me healed and lifted all of the weight limits and such.

Just to be sure I waited another two weeks before doing anything strenous and then I was under the hood of Teva's truck fixing it. That was painful to say the least!

Should have been here a couple of weeks ago when Teva's stallion dragged me across the gate, well up and over. Not once but twice. He is hard to catch and I'm just too stupid to let go. LOL

Teva bought a starve at the Jones auction a while back. She was spooky and the only thing that kept her calm in the trailer on the way home was to be cross tied so she couldn't move much. She had glue marks from at least 5 different sales that she had gone through.

We backed up to a pen to unload her and Teva snapped a lunge line on her before taking off the leads and opening the gate. Didn't see white in her eyes or anything but when that gate swung open she bolted like a top shelf race horse. Of course I had the line, I was hoping to keep a bit of control but wasn't able to so I did let go of this one.

She reared and pawed the air like a stallion, beautiful sight. Teva turned to me and asked me " Do you smell something burning?" I said "well it might be me dear, I didn't let go soon enough" "Gonna wear your gloves next time?" " Yep, think I will" I'm sure glad my hands are tough so there was minimal damage!

The filly is coming along very nicely now that she has found out that neither of us can be bluffed.

Wayne Teva uses Wazine to worm her rats and I don't have a clue about those cute little pigs. When I saw the pic I thought " now why is Wayne posting a pic of a dish rag on a milk crate?" Then I saw that little black eye. LOL

Welcome back my friend. Missed you.

Sorry about the little dog. It losing the pets that hit me the hardest.

Lots of chatter on her the past few days. It sounds like everyone is doing the best they can with their animals in this heat.

NanaKat - glad to hear that Roger is doing better, and got his trach tube removed. The little Cochin roo and the blind hen sound like they were meant for each other.

Michael - I was going to try the fishing spots this morning but was too tired, so am planning to give them a try tomorrow morning. I'm planning to get there around sun-up so hopefully I be there in time to catch the fish while they're looking for breakfast.

So sorry about the dog and chicken losses. As others have said, it's hard to lose an animal. I've been very fortunate so far and haven't lost any to the heat - knock on wood.

For those recuperating - glad to hear that all is well with everyone who has had surgery or other procedures.

One of these days I hope to gain the knowledge you all have about chickens. I feel like a big dummy, and here's why. Back in the spring I bought two Polish chickens from Atwood's in Kingfisher hoping I'd get lucky and at least one would be a girl. The Silver Laced Polish was my favorite, but he turned out to be a boy. The other one was white. I swore this one was a girl because it didn't crow and didn't have the spiky hairdo that the males have. A few weeks ago it made a crowing sound, but I thought it was because at the time I had another roo, a BR, here, and the Polish one was trying to imitate the sound. The roo sung the egg song, so I thought a hen could make a crowing sound. Come to find out, the white Polish is a roo also! Two out of two. (That's why I don't play poker. The odds just don't work out for me and can't count on luck.) I have learned my lesson though. From now on I will only buy chickens that I know are girls so I don't have to try to re-home the boys.

Thanks for letting me vent about my frustration with myself.

One year Teva was going to unload all of the roos while it was still way too early to tell.

She watched them very closely in the brooder and if two got to sparring then they got marked for sale.

Yep, got rid of all of the little pullets!
