***OKIES in the BYC III ***

quick question folks- besides bumblefoot, what can cause a hens foot to swell? have one limping, but no bumblefoot- and have had her isolated a week or so , just to keep an eye on her

the brief shower was nice- just wished it lasted longer- i am ready for fall! we have had 1 tomato and 2 cukes- i guess the heat is too much for them

I thought so by looks, but can't imagine anyone dumping a male chocolate lab they could sell if they didn't want?

Seldom do people in our state confine their dogs in secure fencing. The dog most likely wandered off. Without name tags on him it's their loss and your gain. Looks like your other dog enjoys having him around :)
On a side note: I hear rain!!!!!!!! Yippee!

hey guys been awhile since ive checked in or posted , but just thought i would say hello , sooo much going on but its calming down again

My plan is egg color first, then standard of perfection. Gonna be a long work in progress.

My start came from a couple of gals on this forum who sell eggs in the spring.

This fall I would like to add some different blood lines to mine, but with all of this heat I will be happy if my chickens make to the cooler weather ok. So far I have not lost any of them. My hubby has been watering their area down during the hottest part of the day while I am at work. He is a good guy . He likes the chickens as much as I do.

I had the same thought when I saw the time of your post, donnie.
Glad things are calming down for you. Hope they continue to get better.

The sky is overcast, there is the occasional roar of thunder, the temperature is 74 degrees, and we received 2/10 of an inch of rain last night.

NanaKat - your 116 degree temperature yesterday was too hot for Oklahoma.

That's for sure. I took a photo of the guage because we couldn't believe it ourselves.
We got a wonderful 3/8 inch that came thru the night. It was misting this morning and the temps were wonderful too. Chandler to the north got over an inch and Shawnee to the south got a trace.
Am thankful for any rain!!

I had a young pullet twist her "ankle" and had swelling and limped for about two weeks. I put her in a smaller pen where she d=could still exercise, and set in a floor roost. Made it out of two 12 inch long 2x4 and used a 24 inch length of 2 x 2 as the roost bar. Just cut a 2 x 2 notch in the the 2 x 4s and set the 2 x 2 in and glue or nail it in place.
