PoCo I would keep them confined for a couple of days so they wouldn't run off and hide so you can't catch them. I would thin k you would want them as tame as possible. As they get a little older then you can cut back on their feed and let them be a little hungry so they will look for additional food. You really don't want them totally wild.A tame cat can be a good mouser too,it just needs to have a little less food.

So what do you all feed your muscovey ducks? I am giving mine milo and scratch and they have been hitting the mash feeders too. Its purina medicated starter,I know ducks aren't supposed to eat medicated feed, does that apply to muscoveys too? So far no ill effects. I decided to keep a bunch of muscovys since they are the one bird that has kept its price for years. They never seeem to come down in price. So far I have a drake and four hens, would like to double that.

We had guineas when I was a kid, dont remember them much. A few weeks ago an elderly lady down the road asked me to find her some. In the process I found me some too. Bought a bunch of keets and she didnt want but a few. Bought a book on guineas. It said guineas tasted alot like pheasant. I love pheasant, so now I love guineas. I have watched them grow from tiny to about 1/2 grown now. Very fun to watch. They are always doing something entertaining. Bought some more at next auction I went to. Then again at Perkins. Up to about 20 guineas so far. The colors have peaked my interest. Also read alot about crossing with chickens and making a mule type fowl. The fun with these things seem endless. And did I mention, they are supposed to taste like pheasant. And I love pheasant.

Old cowboy are you going to try and butcher them about 12 wks of age? I figure they grow out faster than a dual purpose chicken. Have you found any of the jumbo guineas? Think I have seen them on craigslist, but might have been for the Dallas area. Figure we will try to eat a few regular ones before I seek out 1 just for eating.

I bought 28 keets lil over a week ago, mostly brown with 7 lanenders and 1 ? Someone who told me they wanted some backed out or I wouldn't have bought so many. If anyone is interested in some PM me. I don't need this many. They are around a month old. around 8-10 is all I want.

I am not sure which is a meaner nest sitter - a turkey hen or a guinea hen

We have a turkey and guinea on two nests of turkey, peacock and guinea eggs, that are side by side. There are guinea keets hatching and I managed to snag 5 of the keets yesterday with only a few nips to my arm, from beneath the turkey hen. I tried to snatch some more keets this evening and decided to leave them with the two moms, after the guinea acted like she would attack my face if I got too close.

I agree - guineas are mean mommas!
