114 here today. We're supposed to pass 116 tomorrow. It's a good excuse to keep both dogs inside. Vesta was spayed today, and she's on the waning edge of her pain injection. She's going to need to be calm (as if that can happen) for a week to ten days, or at least until the stitches are out. She's fallen asleep on the wood floor of the living room. I'm thinking it must be cool on her tummy. She's got minimal swelling, which is normal. I was surprised when the vet didn't automatically issue a cone collar. Apparently they're a last resort now. I hope we don't have to use one. She'll be knocking over everything in the house if she can't see past her nose.
So far the chickens are good today. I sprayed them down twice this morning. I had to be gone until 3, sprayed them when we got home and let them free range. They stayed in the coop, they liked the water.
We found a chicken in the pool on Saturday. She was just sitting there, like a duck. I am not sure how long she was there, but she was all calm and relaxed. We got her out and dried her and she strutted around the coop, I think she was showing off!
I had to take a picture of this because no one would believe us. The heat is so hot you can cook an egg on the concrete driveway...won't dare go out without my shoes.
The thermometer is in the shade on the north side of the house under the eave of the porch.

Pick them off and feed them to the Guineas.......come on now !!!!!! The ones with the black stripes turn into swallowtail butterflies usually find them on dill or fennel. The ones like in Kass's picture turn into lunar moths.
I pick them off and feed to my chickens. My tomatoes aren't bearing anyway, but I am trying to keep the vines alive until it cools hoping for a few tomatoes this fall. I have harvested 9 tiny pear shaped yellows. The size of my thumb from tip to first knuckle.
The squash bugs are actually giving me a bigger headache this (and every other ) year.
I have gotten 9 decent tomatoes from one of my plants. It is a Goliath Hybrid. Guess i will try more of that variety next year. I have 1 tomato on my Cherokee Purple and 2 on my Romas. Got some huge Cantalope getting ripe.
